Help! I've had then pains for a while. They started off as not much and i thought they were just from increasing my distance, etc. When i run they initially start off quite sharp, then then ease for my run and then ache afterwards. Not last night the night before i tried a short 1.7 miles and they booked me during the run. I went at a steady pace and had not ran for over a week to give myself a rest. A friend who runs said it could be my trainers. I bought some asics for doing couch to 5k, they weren't expensive as i never intended to run beyond that. I'm going to start training for a half marathon next year so I'm considering a gait analysis and better trainers. Just looking for advice as I'd really liked to get out over Christmas. Thank you in advance.

Pains in my lower legs
Bothered not booked... sorry for the errors should have checked before posting
Take all the runs slowly, I would advise you to get a gait analysis and buy the recommended shoes and socks to match.
Drink plenty of water 💦 to avoid dehydration, if the pain persists get professional medical advice.
Where are these pains? If they are in your shins - beware! Shin splints is one of the most painful running injuries you can get, and can take ages to get over. In fact, you should never ignore any pain...
Yes, you really should have proper shoes, get the gait analysis done, you won't regret it.
Physio first then gait analysis would be my advice, and not to run until you have seen physio. Understand this may mean you have to shell out some dosh for private physio but well worth it in my book. As ball park figure my Physio charges £40 for a session. She’s worth every penny 😉
Oh I've been for the gait analysis and it came up with over pronation, more on the left leg which is where the most pain is. I'm going to do some stretches and leave off running but will look into physio in the New Year. I did get some proper running shoes to meet my needs though 😊
Brilliant hope that solves the problem and you come back stronger than ever 👍
That's great. New shoes did the trick for me, just take in gently when you go out, and don't do too much the first couple of times.
Did you have shin splints? How long did it take to recover? I'm hoping to get out for a very easy 3k on Friday with my new shoes and hopefully I'll be ok. Like you said I'll need to take it very easy. Thank you
Yes I had shin splints, in week 2 of C25K, I didn't know we needed running shoes, I thought any old trainers would do. The pain was just extraordinary, I could barely walk and it came on very quickly. I was lucky, some proper shoes did the trick and the pain went after just a couple of weeks. I took up where I'd left off, week 3 if I remember correctly. I was lucky, some people are off running for months...
Easy does it, you can do a bit more next time if it goes ok...best of luck, keep us posted.
