Running with Komoot πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘βœ…

I discovered Komoot when I started cycling, and use it ALL the time. I plan routes in Komoot on my laptop, save them for offline use (for when GPS and mobile signal are both unavailable), then use the Komoot app on my phone to navigate the ride; in the app there's a full detailed map showing where you've been, where you are and where your planned route is, but best of all it gives voice navigation prompts just like a SatNav, so I don't have to get my phone out over and over again.

Today I used it in running mode. And I'll be using it again!!! In the park there were lots of path ways, some across fields which are not so obvious, and I did get in a muddle a couple of times until I'd had a look at the map; but for the rest of the run it was brilliant and I didn't have to get my phone out at all. I really love it for exploring new places and am very pleased to find it works just as well for running as cycling 😍. Worth a look if you like trying out new routes.

I’ve never heard of it but will investigate, thank you. I do need to be able to plan new routes or add to my staple ones as my distances grow. What does it cost please?

It is free for the basic version which covers one 'region'. I wanted to use it in Canada too and certainly cross regions when I cycle, so I paid for the full version which cost me a one-off payment of £20 or thereabouts (about a week after starting the free version they offered me a big reduction so I grabbed it 😍, if I'd waited maybe it would've been cheaper, but it's been worth every penny for me). Lots of apps will let you plan routes for free; in my opinion it's the navigation once you are cycling/running that sets this apart from the rest and makes the £20 price tag worthwhile.

Good to know, thanks. And being able to plan on larger screen then use on phone is perfect.

I get bored running the same routes for a long run, so it'll be nice to use this for some exploring πŸ™‚

Hope you like it! I came acrross it while looking for a solution for my father who cycles in remote areas of Canada - with no GPS, no cell signal and no wifi! He loved it - even his remote trails are marked πŸ™‚

yes it seems pretty good and I like the fact it just chooses the route for you!

I often apply a bit of 'local knowledge' when I have it and adjust the route 😍

I haven’t hear of that but it sounds really good. I’ll have to take a look, thanks for the recommendation.

Glad you’re enjoying it.

Ooo this looks good. I've signed up!

I don't normally plan a route in detail, I just set off and run wherever the mood takes me! I think this will help me be a little more adventurous now that I'm tackling longer runs.

I found it easy to plan and adjust a route from the link on email, but I haven't been able to adjust the route from the app.

I'm not very technical so I'll have to ask hubby, but not until match of the day has finished!!

Thanks for the link.

Once I started running longer distances I quickly got fed up of our local residential streets - I started to drive to nice places and explore, and that's when route planning and navigation became important. I absolutely hate having to stop to check maps.

I do most of my planning on the laptop with a nice big screen. One thing to be wary of though is adding your own waypoints when you have a small scale map in view; more than once I've followed an instruction to turn and then, very confusingly, been asked to do a U-turn! when I get home and blow the map up and check, I can see I've dropped the waypoint down a minor side street or something!!! I now try to double check the whole route blown up nice and big before setting off.

I did once adjust a route on the fly using my phone - I'd set off the wrong way round the loop (no idea why!) and was really confused with the directions komoot was giving me, but I ignored it for quite a while ... eventually I realised what had happened and managed to copy and edit the route on my phone and luckily there was a button to reverse direction ... after that all went smoothly πŸ˜‚

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'm sure it will be a great tool (when I get my head round it) and add variety and interest to my routes. Thank you 😁
