After my last muddy run along a towpath, I selected another towpath but with a more or less dry cinder surface.
The weather was a bit windy and occasionally wet but I was better prepared ( two layer plus a zip top). All good BUT I really need to improve my pace control. I'd decided that 6.30 per km should be ok but went too fast for the first 5k. This is in fact monumentally stupid since Garmin reports pace pretty well. I shall have to listen next time! Tried a gell and some water at 8km. No idea if it did any good, but it did no harm. Found the last 2k a bit of a stretch, but otherwise no probs. Hips a bit achey so gentle walk tomorrow and then back on abi hm plan.
Btw plan said 15 to 16 k but 16 was chosen and only ever going to be 16.14!
Hope you are all enjoying the wind and rain too!

Well done John; good pace too! I noticed an ache in my hips after my first ten miler. Didn’t develop into anything so hopefully it will just go away. Shiny 10 mile badge richly deserved 👏👏👏👏👍
Brilliant run, well done. Takes a lot of effort to sort out pacing, but you made the distance anyway so well done 🙂. If you look at the pinned posts, there's one there for you to claim your shiny 10 mile badge!
Keep an eye on the achey hips John !! When I got to about 10 miles back in June my left hip started aching on and off, and now 6 months later it is all the time. I haven’t run since mid October, had X-ray for arthritis ( none luckily), had sports massages every month, Epsom salt baths, taken painkillers, rubbed Deep Heat in, done the stretches I was told to , done Pilates and rolled on the spiky Pilates balls, used foam rollers ... not getting any better at all. Wakes me up every time I turn over in bed...
I have an appointment with a chiropractor on Friday as a last resort 🤞, so fed up with hurting all the time and hardly being able to walk let alone run. So make sure you soak away your achey hips now.
Oh no Lou! You must be so frustrated. When I've had aches (knee, hips, quads ...) they haven't really improved until they were better (if that makes any sense at all) - it's like there was no progress at all despite massage and exercises, then suddenly it would go over the course of a week or two - as if what it really needed was time to simply settle down. I guess what I'mtrying to say is, don't assume the lack of progress means healing is eons away, hopefully it won't be far away. In the meantime loads of sympathy from me xxx
Thanks - it’s getting worse rather than better and I’m so fed up with it. I thought having a 3 month rest with the nasty virus would have helped but nope. 😩
Resting can make things seize up and feel stiffer, but presumably your physio has told you to rest as you're not out there at the moment 🙁. I do hope you see some progress very, very soon 😘
