Has anyone seen my mojo?

It appears that I don’t like running in the winter. Don’t know why. Maybe the cold, damp air makes breathing harder? Dragged myself out for a 10k this afternoon after the football run. Just didn’t feel the love. If it hadn’t been for my OH nagging, I would probably cut it short. 3rd time this week I’ve felt flaky. The first 2 times I actually flaked after 4K! Less than a month since, full of beans, I scuttled round the 10 miles of the GSR. Any suggestions about how to get my mojo back? Book a half marathon for the new year maybe? (I’ve already been shopping!) That’d concentrate the mind and make me train maybe! Help! 😞

So you have lost your mojo, o dear me, or shall I say you, what you should do is give yourself a slap on the😂and say to yourself, "now I am going to restart running tomorrow" or at least on the same days that you ran before you lost your mojo, onwards and upwards 🏃🏾

For me, booking an event always perks things up again. I also regularly sign up for virtual monthly distance challenges as they keep my mileage up too. Sometimes we need a short break from things and it can do us the world of good, but this sounds likely to be a post event reaction. Hope you rediscover your mojo very soon 🙂 (else we'll have to start nagging you 😂)

I hear you Katiepops! The same thing happened to me after my 20k trail race in the fall. I had lost the love and my body was rebelling with a bunch of aches and pains that were new. I blamed back to back HM training without any real breaks and have just started back running when I can whatever I feel like. I don't even take my watch, just turn my runkeeper on, put it in my flipbelt and see what time and distance is ran when I pull it out to stop. It seems to be helping a bit and I've bought a bit of new winter running kit to help spur me on. I'm only running short little runs for now (3-5k) but am finally starting to feel up to tackling something in the mid-distance (5-10k) again. I've booked a HM next June that was quite costly so that is always reminding me that I can't completely stop running and will need to start building up again in the Spring so I better keep my fitness up and work on Stength training if I'm not running as much or as far as before.

Booking and event helps, but somethimes even mid-plan I have a lull in enthusiasm. These days I just take it as part and parcel of the process. I can't be raging to go for a run EVERY time. There will be peaks and troughs. Discipline is whats gets me through, and thats where a plan helps.

I have a HM in Feb, so I know I've got to get out there and bank the time on my feet whether I feel like it or not. Your mojo will come back, but not whilst you sit on the couch waiting for it - you'll only find it by running.

Don’t worry Katiepops. A lot of us who did the GSR have taken our time to get back to distance since then. I dropped to twice a week and only got back to 7k last week. Parkrun is always the way to perk up my interest on a Saturday, and this month I joined the marathon forum speed challenge which involves trying to do a fast 1k every week to see how I can improve. It focuses the mind slightly. 🏃‍♀️💥.

Why not join a fun run? A Reindeer Run or Santa Dash is great fun at this time of year.

I think as @Whatsapp says, there will be peaks and valleys. When you are not directly training for something and on your own it is harder to get out the door on poor weather days. I sometimes am still convincing myself as I am tying my shoes. The thing is, I always feel better after it is done. We’ll have to keep encouraging one another here. 👍🏼🙂

Thanks everyone! Met up with running club buddies for a ridiculous jaunt through the woods in the dark. Climb was nearly 300ft in the first 3 miles! Did we puff and pant? Well obviously! We’re not championship fell runners, but we made it to the top and were rewarded by fences cutting off footpaths due to the abomination that is HS2. Such a shame that an AONB will be carved up for little purpose. But let’s not get political.

What goes up must come down. 3 mile jaunt back down again and home for a soak in the tub. Mojo hopefully found!😊
