After a real dip since Christmas, during which I managed to run walk a half marathon (ran nearly 10 miles before needing to walk a bit) but being so tired and out of sorts (headaches, nausea, muscle pains... Generally feeling meh) I have found out I am anaemic. I have been feeling naff and had symptoms since before Christmas but blamed colds and stress.
Starting iron tablets as prescribed by the doctor and dropped the 5 2 diet as I think that is contributing to the anaemia due to restricting intake so much (my body struggles absorbing iron from green stuff) . Gym today again, but first time in months I haven't woken up tired.
Fingers crossed my mojo is reappearing for training for the Great North Run xx

It is. I was worried I might have depression. Tahe tinnitus didn't help but fingers crossed the anaemia is exacerbating the tinnitus as well. So glad in a weird way to have a diagnosis 4 months of feeling poop and fingers crossed coming to an end x
What a relief it must be to have a way forward if you've been feeling under par for so long. LLHM must have been really hard work if you were anaemic, poor you. Hope you're feeling so much better very soon x
Thank you. I wondered why I was struggling to get out and do things. I just didn't consider anaemia as the cause. Instead I was tackling the individual symptoms. However the doctor didn't connect the tinnitus and breathlessness either. I am looking forwards to getting back on life
Ah, stubborn northern lass. But past few weeks been having naps after work
That’s great that you got a diagnosis. Same thing happened to me. I was getting slower on runs and tired easily. Iron deficiency too. I think it takes at least 2 weeks of taking horrible supplements before we feel the benefits though so take it easy for a while maybe ?
5:2 diet!? My iron levels are borderline but I don’t need to take supplements. One of the benefits I’ve found with running is I no longer need to count the calories- in fact I have to remind myself that I need to eat more carbs before a race and more protein afterwards. I don’t eat junk food and have a mainly veggie diet (with lots of greens) generally. Works for me!
My body doesn't absorb iron very well from veggies for some reason. The 5:2 diet was partly to help my partner lose weight. Fingers crossed for the new eating regime. I have more energy this week so run on treadmill tonight
