I am so delighted - almost a year ago I was nagging myself to restart my C25K journey having lost my way following a fall whilst running (&cracking 3 ribs) almost 18 months previously and today I ran my first half marathon!! Less than a year after restarting. I loved every minute of it even tho I wanted to cry from mile 10 as my hips hurt so much. I had my right foot all strapped up by the physio as an old ligament tear flared up last Sunday but I was determined to do the run as I had raised nearly £800 for the Alzheimer’s Society. And I did!
The atmosphere was amazing and the parks were beautiful even in the dull weather. I even enjoyed the quagmire that was the festival village 🤪 see photo. I ran with two running buddies to start with but both of them being younger than me I let them forge ahead. The medal is awesome and whilst training to try to get a sub 2.30 time I was delighted to get 2.43 when just 5 days ago I couldn’t run at all and could barely put weight on my right foot. Not bad for an almost 58 year old!!
Can’t wait to do another !! Well maybe a few weeks😜
Thank you thank you to all of you on here who encourage, support and inspire. And well done all of you who ran half marathons today xx

How brilliant is that - congratulations! I need your physio - I've got tape 😂. Be nice to your hips and foot now, and sit back with a well earned glow of pride 🙂
Thanks! Well if you’ve got tape I don’t see why you couldn’t have pedalled you’re way over to London from watching Flick to see me finish and then tape me up! You’d have been there in no time with all your cycling🤣
Thanks tho. I loved it and am buzzing today realising what I’ve done
And how lovely are you for going to meet Flick. I bet you both enjoyed that 😊
Haha. What I needed for cycling yesterday was windscreen wipers for my glasses! I was rather hoping if I provided the tape, your physio would do the taping on me, leaving me miraculously able to run again 😂😂😂
Ha ha. I see. It was my first ever physio visit. He was very good. Recommended by running chums. He’s blind so you have to be very precise in what you say rather then just pointing. He did say tho that the bones in my feet were too stiff - no give and my calves were awful. No flexibility. And very big! He said ‘They’re not exactly ladies calves are they?’ 😳😱😢- bloomin’ cheek.
I’m back to see him this week to see how I am and sort out my feet etc 🙄
Hope everything is coming along as planned for you. You’ve been incredibly patient- I think I’d have lost it by now - temper and mojo.
Awesome and inspiring. I recognise that swamp like start - I nearly hit the floor before the start line. And aren't those medals glorious? I also confess I tried on the t-shirt last night and swanned around like the queen of running!
Congratulations! I just read your post. You are amazing 😍
It was great wasn’t it. I’m afraid I wasn’t up to much swanning yesterday 🤣 but as a primary school teacher who has to dress for PE tomorrow morning- guess what I’ll be wearing 😜
Hope you’re recovering well. I’m just buzzing as it’s sunk in what I’ve done. Enjoy your continued swanning! You truly deserve to. 😘
You should definitely wear that medal and t-shirt and perhaps take PE easy today? I reckon you've got a note....Everyone there was wonderful I thought. I felt like hugging people most of the time which would have made this tortoise even slower. It was a brilliantly uplifting experience. Well done us!
