Got a metric marathon coming up on 6th October, very scary, not run this distance before. Really struggled to do 14 last Saturday, legs and feet felt very stumble towards the end. Any tips please guys? Thanks.

Well, you’re nearly there at 14km 😃

Usual prep, eg eat, sleep, drink well Train sensibly and it should be fine on the day. The race day adrenaline will carry you along nicely.

Don’t worry! It”s going to be fine Relax and enjoy the training 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️🏅🍰

You can do this. Fuel well. Believe. It's really not that much further and race magic will be a fabulous help for the day 🙂

Based on my totally unexpected good result Saturday, I'm convinced a "Take training seriously, go to the race just looking forward to having an experience - win, lose or draw :) " is a good strategy.

I think if we are consistent with our runs, we have a goodly reserve to draw against on race day. I'd had a "sick break" of six weeks, only had four weeks to pick up before the HM, longest run I could manage was 8 miles, had an exhausting journey to the venue when flights were delayed, not a lot of sleep then - dog barking at 3am, missed my usual breakfast so pre race "nutrition" was glazed doughnut and chocolate almond Magnum icecream. But, my attitude as a member posted here was "I can only run with what I have" and in "giving up" any expectations I ended up so relaxed and just enjoying and fully appreciating the fact I was running - I was astonishd myself and my buddies genuinely shocked at my time - and I love that I did it non stop :)

By comparison,in April I had trained properly, I had eaten well etc but I was so damn nervous it took me for EVEH to finish and I had to walk a lot of it and my time was over an HOUR more than Saturdays - and I hated the whole experience because I had put so much pressure on myself to "do well".

Now, instead of - as I swore - having run my last HM, I'm realising it's NOT about HMs or 5ks or FMs or those "names"....it's about enjoyable and reasonably challenging events and having a wee bit of intrigue in seeing if I can push it just that little bit further and see what happens :)

To plagiarise Rocky Balboa and also adapt it to running...

"You can run great - or you can be a great Runner" :)

I guess not only do we chose which - but we can also chose FOR OURSELVES what "great" means :)

And in my book - you are an inspiring, nice Runner AL - so imo you are definitely a "Great Runner" as it is :)

Enjoy your "Metric" - and wishing you many happy Kilometers :)

Good music, tasty snacks and drink and just take it steady, enjoy the views and the atmosphere. Avoid thinking too much about how much distance left, just keep on until you see the end! 👍🏻😁

That’s certainly sound advice, music is so important, I will look at my playlists and make sure all the songs are good ones to listen to. I have some blok energy gels which Im not too keen on as they are sickly so must research into my snacks. Thanks so much 😀😀😀

I love frusili, nakd and graze bites which are oat based. Oats give lasting energy over too sweet snacks. I still carry haribo in case I want a sweetie too 👍🏻🤣

I would, but that's just me so please feel free to ignore, l would simply run it on my own before doing the race. Then again, to confuse things further, l did run 26k on my own as part of my marathon training and then duly proceeded to cover 42k as well. On my own, as usual. At least l wear my details on me in case l end up in a ditch hoping that humans would get to me before foxes and crows do.

Far from great. Adequate at best. When you do it you'll realise how achievable it all can be.
