18 miles βœ…

I seem to be posting a lot recently - it reflects my struggle with marathon training 🀣

Today I went out with my friend at 7:30am to try and beat the heat. We followed a disused railway line (the photo is at an old station) and did a total of 18 miles. The first 14 were ok as we were mainly shaded but the last few were when the sun was high in the sky and it was brutal. The last 3 miles were very stop starty as my heart rate kept going up high. The whole thing was slow...

But, I did it. I’m starting to think I could possibly do this marathon. Just maybe πŸ€”

Thank you for your continued support. This forum and my running club are keeping me going at the moment 😍

Brilliant, well done Tasha. Was it the same disused railway that Beachcomber ran on yesterday?

🀣 No it’s another one that heads towards Durham πŸ‘πŸ½He was in Guisbrough

Thank you

I guess there are quite a lot of them, but not massively far away!

Well done Tasha! I'm think I'm going to have to wing my marathon as I'm not sure I'm going to have time to get enough mileage in. The most I've done is 12 miles - 18 is fab 😁

Tasha99 profile image

When is it? You’re a natural anyway- unlike me!

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherMarathonHalf Marathon in reply to Tasha99

End of October - it's Beachy Head so totally different thing to a road marathon. The cut off time is 9 hours and lots of people walk substantial amounts of it so fingers crossed I should get round even if it's very slow.

Don't say that about yourself - there's plenty of people way faster than me as well. I haven't progressed anywhere near as was expected but I enjoy what I can do.

We were all born to run 😁

Yeah I like trails too but unfortunately my knee doesn’t like downhill ☹️

Yours is the day before mine 🀣

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherMarathonHalf Marathon in reply to Tasha99

I'm dreadful at downhill - no injuries I'm just awful at it!

I can beat people who are faster than me on the flat up a hill but people much slower than me fly past me on the way down 😭

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Marathon in reply to pianoteacher

Yeah it’s scary - I do the opposite of what you’re supposed to do and hold back as I think I’ll tumble. My IT band is ruined. I had to walk backwards down a hill today 😳🀣

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherMarathonHalf Marathon in reply to Tasha99

Yep that's me! We do lots of drills at track training one of which is running backwards. I'm quite fast at that too. If there's ever an uphill backwards race in a howling gale and pouring rain I'm definitely winning it πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Of course you’re going to do it. You’re such a consistent, determined runner. And post away. Love reading your progress

Good stuff! An October marathon? You can definitely do that, there’s plenty of time πŸ‘ I’ve got an October marathon and did 17 miles yesterday which is the furthest I’ve done in over a year. Last time I did a marathon my longest run was 22 miles in training, although 20-21 miles would probably be enough. I’m planning another 4 long runs increasing 1-2 miles each time.

Tasha99 profile image

I hope so. I was supposed to do 19 yesterday but it was too hot. Next week is a half then the week after 21, then 23. But the weather could change things. Which marathon are you doing?

Hillrunner2201 profile image

I cut the distance too yesterday because of the heat, I really should have set off earlier in the morning!! I’ve done another long run today though, mainly to fit it in while I’m not at work. Im doing the Yorkshire marathon in October. I’m doing a half at the September too.

Pippa49 profile image

Thanks. Yep it is. As Yorkshire Marathon organisers said in an email to me that as a team they will be there until the last runner crosses the line whatever time that maybe I am not too stressed but obviously I will try and do not too much over 7hrs if I do need it

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Marathon in reply to Pippa49

You seem to be a bit more positive about it now - I hope so πŸ‘πŸ½

Pippa49 profile image

Yes. Whatever happens I am going to enjoy it. Train tickets to York booked now. Already have Cardiff train tickets. Trying to decide whether to pay my accommodation for Cardiff Half in full or pay 1/2 now and 1/2 on arrival however if I do this then I will be paying full amount for York and half for Cardiff next month.

Yes! They arrived last night, a few days early so just been out to try them. They are great, the length and fit are perfect and not hot, pockets just right, I’m very happy. Also I tried with no pants and it was fine ;-) very pleased with them! Thank you
