I seem to be posting a lot recently - it reflects my struggle with marathon training π€£
Today I went out with my friend at 7:30am to try and beat the heat. We followed a disused railway line (the photo is at an old station) and did a total of 18 miles. The first 14 were ok as we were mainly shaded but the last few were when the sun was high in the sky and it was brutal. The last 3 miles were very stop starty as my heart rate kept going up high. The whole thing was slow...
But, I did it. Iβm starting to think I could possibly do this marathon. Just maybe π€
Thank you for your continued support. This forum and my running club are keeping me going at the moment π

Well done Tasha! I'm think I'm going to have to wing my marathon as I'm not sure I'm going to have time to get enough mileage in. The most I've done is 12 miles - 18 is fab π
End of October - it's Beachy Head so totally different thing to a road marathon. The cut off time is 9 hours and lots of people walk substantial amounts of it so fingers crossed I should get round even if it's very slow.
Don't say that about yourself - there's plenty of people way faster than me as well. I haven't progressed anywhere near as was expected but I enjoy what I can do.
Yeah itβs scary - I do the opposite of what youβre supposed to do and hold back as I think Iβll tumble. My IT band is ruined. I had to walk backwards down a hill today π³π€£
Yep that's me! We do lots of drills at track training one of which is running backwards. I'm quite fast at that too. If there's ever an uphill backwards race in a howling gale and pouring rain I'm definitely winning it ππ€£π
Good stuff! An October marathon? You can definitely do that, thereβs plenty of time π Iβve got an October marathon and did 17 miles yesterday which is the furthest Iβve done in over a year. Last time I did a marathon my longest run was 22 miles in training, although 20-21 miles would probably be enough. Iβm planning another 4 long runs increasing 1-2 miles each time.
I hope so. I was supposed to do 19 yesterday but it was too hot. Next week is a half then the week after 21, then 23. But the weather could change things. Which marathon are you doing?
I cut the distance too yesterday because of the heat, I really should have set off earlier in the morning!! Iβve done another long run today though, mainly to fit it in while Iβm not at work. Im doing the Yorkshire marathon in October. Iβm doing a half at the September too.
Thanks. Yep it is. As Yorkshire Marathon organisers said in an email to me that as a team they will be there until the last runner crosses the line whatever time that maybe I am not too stressed but obviously I will try and do not too much over 7hrs if I do need it
Yes. Whatever happens I am going to enjoy it. Train tickets to York booked now. Already have Cardiff train tickets. Trying to decide whether to pay my accommodation for Cardiff Half in full or pay 1/2 now and 1/2 on arrival however if I do this then I will be paying full amount for York and half for Cardiff next month.
Yes! They arrived last night, a few days early so just been out to try them. They are great, the length and fit are perfect and not hot, pockets just right, Iβm very happy. Also I tried with no pants and it was fine very pleased with them! Thank you
