So I did a second marathon distance today. The weather was against me again with the hottest day of the year!
I'm aware it is very daft to do 2 in the space of 2 weeks. My problem is I really do like a long run and if I plan a 20/21 the temptation to push on is just too great
Today's was actually harder in the heat I think although I did increase the elevation a bit and reverse one section from the previous route.
I've definitely got to leave off for a bit at least now. I still had a lot of fun for the majority of the distance. I only actually find the last 3 to 4 miles tough and find myself looking at my watch wishing the distance away. I'd like to get to a stage where I'm not doing that but that's a ways off yet I guess. 18 to 20/22 is not really a problem it's just those last 4 miles or so...
I have decided I will look at going past 26 in the future but I will try to leave that until next year ๐ค๐ป
For now I'm just really pleased with how far I've come and how much distance I'm able to cover.
Even though I have auto pause off Strava still seems to find moving time. Total time was 5:28:03

Congratulations on completing yet another marathon, especially in the heat, are you training for a particular marathon or half marathon?, you are doing very well indeed ๐๐
Another one!!๐ฎ๐ฎ Amazing stuff JoJo! I don't know what else to add...but you were obviously born to run...a long long way! Well done!๐๐๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
We'll just start calling you Forrest shall we? It's amazing that you can do that distance twice in such a short time, and not just on flat road either! But above all, I just love your enthusiasm and pure joy in what you are doing. Brilliant!
That's it, the fun makes it all more than worthwhile. It's pretty much just a day out playing ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ (till those last 4 miles, then it's a test) ๐
Jezzez C, well done, wow! I'm getting ready for my second but I'll make it all preps, caution and drama before l go head on first. I'm impressed! Do you run or run/walk it? A friend (he's 59 I'm 55) just went, Terminator like, and did non stop 3.5hrs. I started walking at around 35/36k and measured 30sec walk per 1km, but that nearly finished me off. My aim is non stop 42, but let's feel what body's got to say. Bloody well done, you!
Run. I had one tiny walk for less than a minute at 16.75 as I was eating. Total time was 5.28. I did have a few pauses for breath/view and my water refill but otherwise just run. I did want a 5hr finish but wasn't to be. That terrain is still pretty tough
Thinking about it, I'm really not sure I could do it on the roads like you did. It's just too tedious with the same monotonous tread on level ground. The flat bit I did on both (couple of miles) was the toughest section on both occasions. ๐ค
Thanks all. I'm not really sure how to get to a point where 26 is comfortable and I can progress onwards. I'm toying with the idea of a marathon a month for now. Dunno how that will be come winter but its just an idea and then go onwards 28/30/32 etc per month from the new year. We'll see. Some definite heel discomfort this morning but PF stretches seem to have dealt with it. Work will give me an all over workout so we'll see how that goes... ๐๐ป๐คฃ
I'm knackered just reading about your run ! Well done on another amazing achievement. I'm planning on getting out on the downs , but for much shorter runs. What trainers do you have ? I'm going to have to get some trail runners, I know it's about personal fit. But I'd be interested if theres a brand that's been good for going over the chalk etc, or ones you tried and were crappy. X
Saucony Peregrine have been great, the new version is called Saucony ISO. I had a look a couple of weeks ago in up and running Horsham at several makes and discussed treads and footbeds at length. The Saucony treads are perfect for chalk and flint. The newer version footbed is a tad firmer, made from carbon which I'll be getting in a couple of months when these give in.
Other brands seem to be better for different areas, Mizuno are way to stiff and solid for slippery chalk, asics wrong tread type. I really think for me Saucony have really come through.
I've bought a pair of Hoka Torrent as well (on offer) but although U&R rate them highly I think I'll keep them for fields/ cross country. They're also supposed to make you run more mid foot with their footbed design so they feel a bit funny.
The ones I have now in ViziRed I love. The new iso come in a much pinker shade or deep purple and a blue one I think. I'll probably opt for purple but the vizired have been superb, like 2 beacons especially combined with neon pink long socks
Wow JoJo, what a run, and in this heat too! Glad you are delighted with this; that's exactly how you should feel! I note the intent to "leave off for a while". Interesting to see whether you yield to temptation. I suspect that I would! Never going for marathon distance though...about 20 years too late for me. I will definitely stick at a half if I make it!๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐บ๐บ
