My pace is coming back to me

After recovering from a groin strain and then immediately getting a virus that lingered and limited me to 2k slow runs I’ve been slogging away getting some distance back in... and my pace dropped from 10/mile to 12. It’s been a frustrating time and then today I went out for a 2k recovery run... 11 minutes and it was done, absolutely buzzing and also confident I’ll get to the distance in time for my HM.

So sorry about your groin strain but glad that you have recovered from it and also the virus has gone as well, you seem to have enjoyed your recovery run today, absolutely buzzing, well done, when is your HM run?

November 3rd... I maybe even have a little leeway on distance now... losing a month as soon as I booked the run was not the best timing.

Good luck for Sunday November 3rd, still plenty of time to train.

Lots of lovely miles to be run! Want to get a 15 mile one in before the taper, but I’ll settle for a 13

Funny isn’t it... the fact I was behind schedule in terms of the long run wasn’t bothering me so much as the sudden drop in pace... one little blast and my head is right again! The original plan had 3 15 mile long runs then taper and when I first adapted after getting going again they all vanished, but now I have one back 10 days before my event... just need to avoid injury now, and then decide if I need that run or start the taper before as it’s my first HM... all I need to do is get over that line.

With me... the lack of long runs...(weather related...ice and snow)...bothered me for a while.I only made 16? But the incredible support and advice on here reassured me. I then relaxed did what I could and enjoyed it.

roseabi said to me once, that we can do our training etc by the book...but on the HM day, we just need to accept what the day brings; we may have a niggle, the weather may be against us, all manner of things...and the main thing to remember was, just enjoy it, and finish it: to take it steadily, walk if you need to, but just to embrace the whole wonderful experience.

I followed that advice...I finished 9 minutes longer than my predicted finishing time...and I had an amazing day.🙂

I said, after my HM...I would not do another...it was just for me and I was happy. I shall be booking the same one for next year, soon😉

Needed doing... no speed sessions this week or next so I figured when it said “recovery” it meant “tempo” 🤣

So happy for you UNM - what a good pace as well, no doubt you’ll be cruising come 3rd November.

Im trying to get to 10/11 miles pre race day, as the foot injury has knocked weeks off - however I think if i can do 11 I’ll do 13! I have a stretch plan that has me running the route the week before I taper so keep your eyes peeled....

Yeah, you’ll be used to adding miles and will have fresh legs so if longest before was 11 you’ll be fine. Will look forward to reading all about yours and you just made me think, I should go do some runs in the course.

I had all that earlier in the year after injury. It’s very frustrating (actually I still haven’t got my pace back, but that might be because I’m doing so many very slow training runs) so I’m glad it’s all coming back for you x

That’s where I was but couldn’t understand why my lovely slow had become slower too! Not so long ago I couldn’t have cared less too... guess we are all the same there. Good to read about your progression back from injury too... and that pace is where mine was, not lost just hidden.

Wonderful news!!!!! xxx

Good luck with the HM. How long did it take to recover from the groin strain? I strained mine and am on my 3rd week on the injury couch and I am climbing the walls!!

It was about 3 weeks, probably could have been a little less but like an idiot I tried to run on it a couple of times in the first week. Hopefully you don’t have much longer to wait... the IC isn’t fun. I did some seated cardio to keep the fitness up.
