I set out to do 24 miles today in spite of the yellow weather warning for high winds. I had to clear the road of one tree to make it up to the car park... that should have told me something 🤣

Around mile 20 I started debating going the full distance with myself, it was quite a discussion as I'd gotten soaked in a heavy horizontal downpour and my feet had started to burn and itch around mile 18. Wet socks I guess. But thankfully it did go.

Miles 19 to 23 were uphill and upwind, some gusts making me feel like I wasn't making any headway at all.

All in I was glad I went for it... hot bath now! 👍🏻😁

Relive has chopped a wee bit off, it was 5hrs 30 dead and 26.22 miles. Genuine time too as I've turned off auto pause. It wasn't the weather for stopping much anyway, just a few snack and map stops.

Wow! What an amazing run Jojo - especially given the weather today!!💨🏃🏽‍♀️🌧💨 I popped onto your past posts to see if I could see what marathon you were training for and read your 'Potted History' post, that I had obviously missed. What an amazing journey and so great to read how you have used running to help with your mental wellbeing. I have battled with anxiety on and off through most of my life - nothing has helped me in the way running does.😀 It has really helped me believe so much more in myself - amazing what we can do when we set our minds to it! Anyway, thank you so much for being such an inspiration to everyone on here - keep on running!👍🏃🏽‍♀️

Thank you Sandra. Nope, no event, just doing it for A. The hell of it and B. To prove to myself I can.

I prefer doing all my runs on my own terms, I often change location, route or length at the last minute, rather like today! 🤣🤣

The body is an incredible thing and once we look after it better, we can achieve almost anything we set our minds to 👍🏻😁

Thank you! Even harder by the sea! As I crossed the bridge at Shoreham I was really fighting it! Daft really! 🤣 course by then I had a long way back so may as well make it worthwhile 👍🏻😉

Oh. My. DAYS! Outstanding Jo, you're a machine!

Outstanding run Jo! Are you sure you don’t want to try the Ultra Trail scene? I hear they are pretty casual.😁

Thanks. Not really sure I'm ever going to be ready to join any particular "scene" 🤣 I might get to 30 miles but not sure I want any more than that. Really pleased I did it though 👍🏻😁

Thank you! Yes, in spite, or maybe even because of those awful conditions, I felt I deserved it in some weird masochistic way! 👍🏻🤣🤣🤣

Awesome! You make it sound so easy and relaxed! I was pretty tired after 18miles - it was a hot day but not sure I could have gone on, so hoping I can extend the distance ok. Well done you! 👏🏻👏🏻😊

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Macmac

Well it was and it wasn't 🤣🤣 fighting uphill against the wind at times felt like I wasn't moving at all, arguing with myself over do I push on or not, the stress of my music dying, having to stop and get my phone to take over that chore, the panic when I thought Garmin battery was gonna die, but it was all totally worth it 👍🏻😁

JoJo, this is truly MIND-BLOWING! That you did this outside of the structure of a formal marathon event – no crowd to cheer you on, no marshalls to pass you water – is utterly incredible. One of the most impressive things I’ve ever heard.

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Stephen_UK

Aw thanks Stephen. To my mind it was more of a cop out, not having to perform in front of a crowd or commit on paper to a set date and start time. I did have a small cheer section in the form of 4 walkers whom I passed multiple times towards the end. They saw my finish and congratulated me at the end. It was really nice. I had plenty of fluids with me and access to a tap at around halfway.

The crazy thing is I've already started giving myself a hard time for being a tad slow, which would have been even worse had I got other times to compare myself to.

I think I'll run it again in better conditions, not sure when, but definitely will 👍🏻😁

Slow?! Cop out?!! You are joking, right?!!!

This is seriously inspirational stuff. I hope the forum team are working on a special badge/medal for you right now because you deserve it. The words “well done” or “congratulations” simply cannot cover this kind of achievement.
