Knee!

Yesterdays session was mile repeats finished off by fast 400s. So I set the interval timer on the watch for the miles and set off for a warm up.

1 mile warm up - all good

1 mile at marathon pace - nice and comfortable

2nd mile - feels fine

3rd mile - what's that?

4th mile - my knee feels a little odd...

5th mile - that's starting to hurt. Not to worry, only 1 mile left

6th mile - bloody hell! That's unpleasant!

By now I'm hobbling quite a lot, sharp pain in the right side of my right knee every time my foot hits the ground. I'm doing a walking recovery while I reset the watch for the 400s. By the time I'm ready to go I'm properly limping, tried to set off for the first set but it just wasn't happening; very very painful. Hobbled home, with frequent stops (at one point I thought I wasn't going to make it and considered phoning the OH).

Much Ibuprofen, ice, heat and keeping my weight off it later and it's still sore. Not as painful, but not at all right. Rest day today, thank God, not sure tomorrow's hill session is looking all that likely though. I may have to give the Physio a call...

Right at the start of the final 16 week push leading up to Brighton too, lovely.

Don't do the hill session, and see the physio - but don't despair!!! It could well just be a blip xxx

Yeah, I'm leaning in that direction. Just a wee bit nervous about missing some training.

Do you swim? It's a great way of keeping your fitness up. Or there's cycling if your knee can take it?

Actually, we're just getting into swimming. I've a session in the schedule for Thursday.

Physio booked for tomorrow.

I imagine the physio will tell you to stay off hills for a while, but that won't be too detrimental since the Brighton is pretty flat. Good luck!!

Thank you. I very nearly ran this morning. The knee's a lot better, but still fells "wrong" somehow. Physio this afternoon, so I'll figure out what to do once she's done her thing.

Arg how frustrating! But hopefully if it is feeling better—albeit a bit wrong—then maybe it was just a twinge somewhere rather than any actual damage. I'm glad you decided not to risk a run this morning though! Hope the physio delivers good news 🤞

How was your physio appointment Andy? Did you get the all clear to resume running? Have my fingers crossed for you 🤞

Inflamed outer meniscus. No running until it's pain free. She does think cycling and swimming should be okay though. Probably a week before I can think about running... somewhat grumpy.

Not what you were hoping for but a week on the IC isn’t so bad, it could have been a month or more 😱 and it’s goid that she is happy for you to carry on cross training 🚲 🏊‍♂️

Indeed, and she worked the surrounding tissue pretty well too, quite some relief this morning. Today's schedule has a swim and a strength session (that usually involves a mile warm up jog, I'll skip that bit), tomorrow's a rest day then the weekend has a steady 7 miles on Saturday and a 12 mile toffee run on Sunday. I'll switch Saturday to the bike (assuming I get round to fixing the puncture...), then see how the knee feels for Sunday.

The Gloucester half is a fortnight on Sunday, I'm hopeful I'll still be able to make that...

Oops...

I couldn't help myself. 10 minute, very slow, warm up jog before the strength session this afternoon. And it felt fine. Lunges aggravated the knee somewhat though, so I skipped the rest of those, added a plank at the end to make myself feel better.

Swam this morning too, and that was pain free.

Not what you're looking for?
