It’s all relative isn’t it?

I went out this morning into the light drizzle and had a so so run. Not very fast, not very far, no real pretty views and I got home again and got indoors just as the skies really opened and it lashed down. Perfect timing for once. I was feeling a bit meh though and “I’ve only run 5k” until I stopped and thought.

This time last year I was hobbling about in a boot, with a fractured ankle and no sign of running again for another 8 weeks at least AND the previous year I couldn’t even run for 5 minutes!!!!

So as I said it’s all relative!!

So I’m now thinking “ I’ve run 5k this morning ” with a much more positive slant on it. And planning Thursday’s run which will be my long run of 18k hopefully. 😁

And it WAS really nice running in a light drizzle for a change

You felt like I did yesterday LL, with the same realisation. All it takes is to think back to where we came from. This time last year I was on W7 of C25K, never remotely imagining that I too will be running 18k this week (tomorrow in my case 😀🤞)

Good luck with yours! 😀👍🏃‍♀️

Aren’t we clever? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Yes chuffed about dodging the rain and I’m feeling better about having run 5k at all now. It’s definitely better temperature for me now

Ah, I got the deluge that you missed. Also, with this slow running half marathon training, I’ve yet to exceed 7k. I was out for an hour today and did just under 6k. But, like you, I’m casting my mind back to earlier when I was grounded with my injured knee and didn’t think I would ever get my running fitness back. And back earlier to the beginning of c25k when I was a gasping heap after running for 30 seconds!

Amazing! I for one would be delighted to have run 5k this morning, as you will understand only too well. Before very long you'll be saying 'it was only a half marathon'; I wonder if there's a magic distance at which we stop apologising for our amazing efforts 😀

Yeah my daughters just told me off for doing down my efforts. “ at least you are out there mum, I haven’t got off the couch since December ☹️”

Oh yes, sometimes we have to check ourselves! Last week, I was at my mum's, and went out early for a run to beat the heat. When I got back she asked me how far I had gone and I replied, "Oh, just 5km today". She laughed at me and said "JUST 5km?! That's a long way to run!" Well, she has a point!

Well done on getting out before the rain, Lou, and well done on a lovely 5km. It has been lashing it down all day in London – heavens opened just as I got back from my swim, and I was pleased that I had got up and at 'em early today!

I got back from running just in time so made me very smiley 😁

I looked up at the clouds today and they were pretty awesome 🙂

Some runs are just runs but they usually have something in them to like 🙂

It’s all very relative... I remember loading up footpath for the first time and plotting a 5k Route, it’s a bloody long way when you see it on a map... and now, well it’s just the mundane... it’s easy... I still fear it on a map though! I ran Pwllheli parkrun and amongst the many issues I had on the run (setting off with the gazelles, energy sapping sand, camber of the beach etc) was one big issue... I could see the turn of the out and back the whole way, and it doesn’t get closer quickly... give me a twisty parkrun with trees blocking my view and halfway comes pretty quickly... staring it down for a mile and a half and I swear it was moving away from me at times.

Have a wonderful 18k

Haha yeah I see what you mean, my usual route is twisty and I can only see so far ahead at a time or I’d be defeated too.

You could have run it with eyes closed... I certainly could have... I was that slow! :)

We do this awful thing to ourselves; we push and push and expect more and more and forget just how far we've come. It's always good to just stop and look at where we came from. I do it literally on the trails, looking back at the hills and the direction of where I've travelled. It's pretty humbling at times.

No such thing as just a 5k, just getting out is brilliant! 👍🏻😁💕

I really admire you lot who run hills and trails. I have enough issues on the flat- I used to do hills 25 years ago but my asthma holds me back now - maybe one day .....

Asthma isn't holding you back... you're running again! You're in control, who knows where you'll be this time next year 👍🏻😉
