Hi all i decided to start trying to run last July following the fab C25K plan, my aim when i started was to be able to complete 5K without stopping, eeerrrmmmmm fast forward a year, i've signed up to take part in Great North Run, this decision was made for 3 reasons, it's the day after my 50th birthday, sadly the anniversary for my hero my dad who lost his fight against cancer 17 years ago on the 8th September (GNR race day), and my wonderful father in law do lost his battle with cancer last April.

i've running to raise money for Marie Curie who supported my father in law and my family through Nickys battle last year, definitely Angels on Earth.

6 weeks to go till the GNR, my longest run to date was on Saturday 11 miles in 2 hours 30 minutes, would like to try run the 13.1 miles at least once before the day, so in my own head i know i can do it.

i've got no time to aim for, but to still be standing after crossing the line is my goal.

Thank you for reading.

Two miles to go, easy pickings. Increase distance gently over the next few weeks and you should be fine.

Great stuff Piglet7969. Not long to go! Well if you've hit 10 miles you've pretty much cracked it! Good luck and looking forward to hearing how you get on 😎😎

You’ve got this Piglet! You and I are in a very similar place - in terms of age (I’m slightly older) when we started running (June last year) and our times (I did 10.5 miles in 2hr 25 recently) and I’ve signed up for the GSR in October! 😀

Good luck, you’re running for a great cause. ❤️ We can do it! 👊

Sounds like you have good motivation which will keep you going when the going gets tough. As for preparation you are pretty much bang on. I have run 3 HMs and never run further than 10-11 miles in preparation, so I'm certain you will have no worries.

I look forward to hearing how you got on.

Sounds to me like you got it already... but with 6 weeks to go and a long of 11 miles you could even go to 14ish before tapering for the HM. Have a wonderful event.

As others have said here already, you are in great shape for this distance. Just keep doing what you’re doing 👍🏼
