I have been searching for a suitable forum in which to post my work woes but can't find anything. I feel safe posting on health unlocked but would like to post on the relevant forum if I can find one.

Are all the communities health related?
I think they're all health related. I suppose you could class it as mental health...
I'm happy to listen...
Thank you GoGo_JoJo. I have an interview for a job however about a month ago I made a couple of mistaked at work not deliberate and as far as I am aware nothing else has come up. However my boss said at the time that she couldn't give me a reference because of it. I am hoping that because nothing else has happened since that this would no longer be the case. I really want this job as it is the first one with the hours I want to come up. I have been told I can ask to see a reference if I don't get a job because of it.
Unless this new job is within the same firm her reference may not carry as much weight as she feels. Most employers are happy to give a choice as to whether or not to seek references from your existing employers because a. They may not know you are seeking alternative employment and b. Your current manager may well be the reason you want out.
Current rules mean she cannot lie in a reference however she can provide the data but make it look worse than it is. Some firms simply send a form to confirm length of service, sick record and position.
Have a think about why the mistakes happened and maybe choose to disclose it at the interview. See how the rapport feels. Ask outright if they need a personal ref from your current job. Explain that you and your current line manager are at odds. She obviously knows you are looking around and may be using this to try and stop you from leaving or from getting a better job.
Good luck with the interview! 👍
I work in the NHS but the job is in a different county and therefore different trust. Both situations were innocent non deliberate mistakes and were rectified so as far as I am concerned that should be case closed. I know it won't happen again but I am paranoid that my boss will mention it unless all they want to know is length of service, sickness and position (I am currently an audio typist and the job is a Team Secretary). I get on with my boss and she has no issues with me as I come in and get on with my job, am rarely off sick and very often don't leave on time. Obviously if they ask a question about any mistakes I have made and how they were resolved and what I have learned then I will have to say something. Thank you. X
That's not a question which us usually posed. Time keeping, efficiency and in your field speed of typing.
They may ask in your field about efficiency. That's the only one where she could really volunteer info about the errors.
Everyone makes mistakes. If you have a good balance of years without any issue it should not be a problem. (Only you know the severity of the errors)
Yes I have been there nearly 4 years in July . The errors were not that severe just stupid and everybody has done the same things so I am not the only one but felt like it was personal. Nobody is infallible including my boss. They won't happen again. So hopefully there will be no problem. I am probably worrying about nothing but it affected my self confidence and and belief in my ability to do my job.
100% for sure. Deep breath. Remember who you are, all you have come through and what you are capable of! If you want that job...go and get it! 💪👍😁
Thank you GoGo_JoJo. My colleague says I do a good job and am a valued member of the team. The interview is on Wednesday 26th June and I return from doing the Swansea Half marathon on the Monday(24th) so I will be in work one day as have booked the Wednesday off! .My boss has agreed. I am determined to get out and get nearer to home which is what this job will be. Xx
Great. Just like the HM you can see the goal... just keep going 👍😁🤞
Thank you. Tbh I was half hoping I wouldn't get an interview. When I got the email I was tempted to withdraw my application but then I thought no I have made two mistakes, not on purpose and they have been rectified and won't be made again. I will wait and see what happens. I am on edge though every time I hear there is a complaint I am paranoid it's something to do with what I have done. I can't work under those circumstances anymore.
That's not a healthy situation to be in. Is it just you being too hard on yourself or is your manager reinforcing this atmosphere?
It is probably me being paranoid but considering the situation as it was before it was sorted is it any wonder. Nobody else seems bothered. I am because I care about doing the best I can. Anyway I will shut up now lol and just wait and see. All I can do really. Thank you for being patient and listening to me. It has helped.
They are but there are specific forums which focus on the area of Mental Health..
These are linked through the NHS website
nhs.uk/conditions/stress-an...
Many have forums... Probably one of the best known?
In my experience, NHS Managers are always advised by HR to give a reference rather than discriminate by not doing so. If there are concerns the reference will just say..... yeap.....She has worked for us for ???? years. The inference may be drawn from what isn't said rather than what is said but honestly, only a very experienced recieving manager will pick this up.
Go to the interview, make sure you are well prepared and sell yourself. Tell them what you can do, draw from your recent mistakes and make sure you are clear you can do the job they want.
Good luck
Thank you. I was advised that most will ask for confirmation of work period, any sickness, lateness. Employers are not allowed to give a bad reference otherwise they could be challenged and sued surely.
All I know is if you were applying it me in my field I'd be looking at the fact you are good enough to have been kept four years - losers don't last that long - and your Boss giving a begrudging reference would mean that the boss is a problem and part of the reason you wish to change jobs OR - your boss is hoping you won't be hired away because you are too valuable to them.
Just be honest and keep it simple when answering questions at the interview - believe me, that is so rare it will get the interviewer on your side
I'm not sure about work-related communities, but ACAS are a free service where you can get legal advice. You can search the website or call to speak to an advisor: acas.org.uk There is also the Citizens Advice Bureau
