Any of you guys experienced certain changes with condition of your toes due to running? You know….like..... toe nails going completely red, then more red…..and then black?! The amount of recent running must have contributed, and in the past two or so months I’ve gone further distances than ever. Is that what I am going to look like on a hot beach this summer? A guy with bloodied disfigured toe nails? Will that disturb people sipping their cocktails? Will a bar manager ask me to leave? Will the dogs bark? Shall I wear boots in the heat? Help!

Can't help you I'm afraid Mr R.

Im subject to a worldwide Beach exclusionary order since the unfortunate "Golden Miles Strands Bannana-Hammock Catastrophic Seam-Failure Incident of 2004" :(

Red or black? I cover both and there's a misty shade of yellow and blue. Pretty much like a rainbow. I'm doomed.

Well from what I have heard about your running fashion sense, you will be beautifully coordinated and the envy of all the guys at the pool😊

You do know I suppose that the next stage after black is drop off 😱

Yep. My wife describes them as grotesque but l prefer 'exclusively delicate' as my choice of description.

Perhaps you have discovered the answer to why some men sport the socks with sandals ensemble!

Ah! That. Is. Where. I. Draw. The. Line. Fashion police would string me alive.

You don't have to wear them. Just stand next to someone who is. No one will notice your feet - guaranteed!

Good man! Never thought of that! What a neat idea....

Join the club 🙈

I’m nursing a toe at the mo, earned last Sunday on a fast downhill. It was ‘orrible this morning but it felt less painful once the pressure was relieved 😬😤. I had to tape it and wear a plaster 🙄

I picked up a sack of Epsom salts en route for home post run 😃

I'm already a member too! Last ysr nail polish was my saviour. After much changing of trainers, socks and how I wear said socks, I happily now only have one black nail, no black toes and virtually no blisters. Almost time for me to hit the beach I think 😎

Good luck!

l wear a basketball jersey even when on a beach and given how eye-catching those things are the nails might go unnoticed. l emphasise the word 'might'.

I’m for nail varnish, otherwise can’t help, although the mental image of a chap sidling up to others wearing sock and sandal ensemble making polite small talk made me smile....😂🦶👀😱

That ensemble should be made illegal and l would much rather parade my chess figurines as they are.

Two of my toe nails on my left foot seem to be crumbling awash, not such a good look I’m afraid. Who would have thought that running would do this to your poor tootsies. I don’t know what the answer is mrrun. By the way, love your posts, you are so funny😀😀

It's like a badge of honour for distance runners. Like a tattoo on a sailor's arm or tootles grin of an old sage man. Or a battered car of a drunk.

Right just looked up about how lacing your running shoes can help eliminate black toes. Thread lace through one bottom eyelet diagonally then thread the same lace through top eyelet, leaving the lace there long enough to tie the shoe. Thread the other end of the lace through the shoe going from the outside to the inside of the shoe until you reach the top eyelet, then tie the shoe with the other end of the lace. Hope you understand this mrrun.

All is left to do is avoid to run 350km in just over two months, 4-5 times each week, pounding the hard terrain. Not even ski boots would help in that scenario. But, thank you anyway, l will look into it.

Link below maybe useful.

Definitely a badge of honour amongst the cognoscenti.

I’m with the nail varnish vote. You could even get decals to apply and co-ordinate with your baseball tops 😀. Or wrap your feet and toes in cottonwool and give them lots of space in the toe box 😁. Or you could cut the toes off of toe socks and have toe puppets!

Maybe try to float as Oldfloss wisely advocates (kiss the ground with your feet) rather than pounding the terrain - see where that got me 😮.

My feet/toes are in beautiful condition but that’s only because I’m 7 months out of the ”beautiful (running) game” . This will be the first summer in years that my feet will be proudly? displayed in sandals this year...... unfortunately

Thanks Annie! On the plus side, to an untrained eye they may resemble a piano keyboard, so at least there's a 'surprise' factor for the beach bar goers.

Um.... Are your running shoes too short? I usually clip my toe nails as far back as I can 'cause that's what happens - they turn black -I think that's a runner's "thing". :-) And, not to gross ya out- but, if it doesn't hurt, I will just pull my toe nails off - like the baby toe nail. Maybe try a 1/2 size larger in shoe size? That's all I got for ya!

mrrunUltramarathon in reply todonnaj0326

All of my shoes are supplied by the guys who did my gait analysis and for years all was fine. Then l started running some serious distances and volumes and voila. I actually suspect my compressed running socks need to answer a few questions. ;)

I never wear socks when I run - but, good luck - hope it all works out for ya!
