This weekends half marathon!

To all those running the health unlocked half marathon this weekend - Good Luck!! Hope everyone's training has gone to plan. I have trained up to 18k to save the last few for the day. On my 18k last week I ended up with mild plantar fasciitis. It seems to have recovered quite well in just a week with rest and massage. I did a strength and stretch session yesterday and plan to do a couple more before Sunday but I'm purposefully not running until then.

Now all I need is a meal plan for the days leading up - I read carbo loading is good for 3 days before the day to fuel the system well.

You can probably guess this is my first half marathon distance so I'm learning, apprehensive and super excited!!

How's everyone else doing?

☺️

You will smash it, I am sure. Good luck to all the HM'ers.

I am doing the 10km as had an enforced three week break just as I was about to pick up the distance in my HM plan, so will be waving my pom poms for those doing the longer distance once I've staggered over my own finish line!

A niggly knee! Not bad but just didn’t want to take any chances. I’ve only done one HM distance before and that’s over 3 years ago so Iits quite an undertaking for me! V happy and confident about the 10km though!

Well done on your training ... and on having the sense and patience to rest and stretch your foot so as not to jeopardise the half itself.

Carb loading the night before and a good breakfast at least 90 minutes before running will all serve you well. Remember to drink plenty of fluids the day before too. That way you will be fit and raring to go!

Remember you won't be running alone. Enjoy!!!

Thanks Linda. Hopefully I'll be back here on Sunday having completed it. My 10 year old is also cycling the distance with me, actually he has done this throughout all my training so far. Can't wait to give him the medal I ordered for him, it has half marathon on the front and personally engraved on the back saying thank you for being an amazing coach for his Mum. Can't wait to see his face. 😊 He also started his own junior park runs last Sunday! Super proud of him.
