In case you're wondering, they don't work.......... Made absolutely no difference to my (very) short run this morning. Back to square one I go. Thinking a specific sports therapist might be worth a shot????? My doctor appointment isn't for another 3 weeks.

Sorry to read this Pete! Yes, worth a shot.
I'm gutted. I managed 3 K before the pain kicked in...
I've just been reading through your recent posts. I note that you saw a physiotherapist - what did they think the problem is?
To be honest I don't think they actually told me what the problem was. I saw the physio when I had an injury to my right knee (it's now my left). They said I have a weak right side so gave me exercises to strengthen and bring me back in line. They told me to alternate the exercises with gentle running which worked. I have done the same this time but nothing has improved. I'm getting concerned now as it's really quite painful even walking. Hopefully the doctor will refer me to an orthopedic person and I can get a scan. Thanks for your concern and I'm sure I'll be up and running again soon
I'm sure you will too. Looks like rest is your best option while you wait for the doctor - three weeks is a good long break, and could well be what you need. I know it's frustrating though 😞 If there's anything other than running you can do to keep active in the meantime without hurting your knee that would be good, but if not don't worry - you'll be back! xxx
I sure hope so. I don't wanna turn back into the lazy slob I used to be 😂😂
Well, there you go, attitude sorted!😊😊😊
I think it's likely that you will get referred to a physio by the doctor which will involve more waiting. It might be a good idea, while you wait for the doc appt, to start researching a good private sports physio, or of course you can go back to the one you saw before if you're happy with them. If funds allow. This is a separate problem to the one you had with your other knee - you shouldn't assume that the same treatment will work for it.
Hi Pete - sorry you are still no further forward. I agree with roseabi that a good rest from the runs might help, whilst you try and get to the bottom of things. Finding a good physio who is experienced in treating running related problems could be a very good move. I think I am lucky that my physio is a runner herself and has worked with a lot of runners too. Saw her on Wednesday and she thinks my knee issues are mainly due to tight quads and hip flexors (which ties in with my overenthusiastc use of the climbing machine, too!😮) I have started more focused stretching and rolling of my quads with a rolling pin(!) and it is already helping my knees. I did also break from running for two and a half weeks and am under orders to keep runs short whilst things settle. Having seen her a few times in the past, she now knows my body imbalances so well and has given me a very personalised programme to support this. I think you are right in stopping to make sure that there is nothing more than a bio mechanical cause to this but you may yet find that this is something that can be fixed with rest and the right individualised rehab programme from a good physio. Good luck.
Thanks for the long and detailed reply. Particularly the tip about the rolling pin😂😂. The physio I saw on my last visit was a runner himself and he fixed my other knee with no problems. Everything he advised I followed and it cleared up within the week. I think I'm getting conflicting information because some people are saying rest and others are saying not too but keep the runs short. I've made the decision to stop all running until I've seen the doctor. If after that the wait to determine what is wrong is a considerable length of time then I'll probably make another appointment with the physio at work. Now where's that rolling pin?????
I've found some videos on YouTube giving advice on how to "release the IT Band". Should I try them out or should I just leave it to avoid any further damage potentially??.
