I gave up writing any clue to the contents of the boxes containing my life ages ago, there is no method to this any more, just boxes and boxes as far as the eye can see, and to make things even more hectic my dad and stepmum decided to come and visit from down south the day after our first night in the new house. It was lovely to see them, but who does that π It's put the cat's already disgruntled nose right out of joint. Suffice to say running has had to take a back seat. Again.
And the second bit of bad news is I have no internet yet because BT are useless, but when the trams and buses go past the street across the way I can hop onto their wifi. So this post is brought to you courtesy of Lothian Buses!
I am not going to mention the beautiful running weather because I jinxed it last time. But I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter weekend full of chocolate and spring joy! π
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Happy running, awesome people!

I'll take a box or three, I'm doing pretty well with the strength workouts at the moment π
Poor Fenella π’
Bus WiFi, awesome!!!
Chugging along as usual, although it was a bit warm for the run on Friday! I have promised my Quest people on B210K that I will do a 2.5K swim before the end of said Quest, so that leaves this week... π¬
I'm contemplating signing up for a Superhero 10k that is happening here next month. If I do I shall dress up as Blue Triathlon Cat Woman! π₯
0h Sqkr I do feel for you! We're currently having some decorating done so the conservatory is a makeshift office with overspill boxes in the living room βΉοΈ I very much like the idea of bus WiFi though!
We had our 4th birthday parkrun at Hastings on Saturday which was a lot of fun π°
Not sure I'll get my speed work done this week as I should have done it today but opted for chips and ice cream on the seafront instead ππ¦
I need to get on with it as my son is absolutely flying at the moment! There are many kids who are faster than him but his sheer determination to continue to improve is really inspiring. It's hard to believe he's the same child who only last summer struggled to run for more than a couple of minutes!
His long term goal for junior parkrun was to go sub 8:30 by next January as he'll be 15 then and won't be eligible to take part anymore. Yesterday he ran 8:27 so he needs to adjust that goal π
That's what I tell myself as well. As one of my parkrun friends says, how many 14-15-year olds turn up for parkrun every week? The frustration comes from knowing what sort of speed he's capable of.
Hopefully he'll realise himself then push it a bit more. My son was getting stuck in no man's land at junior parkrun for quite a while - a lot faster than the little ones but unable to catch the leaders. I usually marshal so would see him jogging along not putting much effort into it. Last week lots of the super speedies weren't there and the boy in first wasn't really going for it (he can run a full minute faster than he did) so Daniel was able to stay on his shoulder until the final sprint. It helped his confidence a lot and the fact that he is now more than 2 mins faster than me and 5 mins faster than his Dad at adult parkrun spurs him on too x
Where do you want these boxes Sqkr? π³πHope life is back to normal soon. Very creative on the bus WIFI idea!
Iβve been trying to get my mileage back up again and include some trails and hills for the upcoming Sulphur trail race in late May. Today I got a Garmin PB on 10k with the lovely weather weβve been enjoying this week. On Sat I got 19k in on our long run. Almost back to the HM distance again. Also finally signed up for my first full marathon with the Scotiabank Waterfront race in October. Suddenly things feel like they are getting real.
Perhaps not if you do not know the fragile contents.π
You made me laugh.π Who does that indeed. As a very old Dad, I know my place.Only time I got an invite was to attack a job list. When that was finished , here is your hat and whatβs your hurry.ππ
You will get back running.
Love the WiFi idea and wish it worked for broken TV aerials.
Still now that the better weather is here ladders out and get the job done. You only fall once from my roof.π
Not being morbid but true story in the news,an old guy in his 70βs adjusting his TV aerial at midnight π, shot through the arm and stomach with an arrow.πUnbelievable.πSeriously ill in Stoke.
Happy running Sqkr.
Victor Meldrew keeps jumping out of the box here.Cant keep the old b inside.Job for you sqkrβ πππ
Oh gosh I read about the guy that got shot on his roof! Crikey. Don't go up there without a full set of armour, Tbae! Or better still get someone else to do it. The older I get the more the balance tips away from doing things myself for cheap -> getting someone else to do it for an easy life!
Just completed a run-cycle-run-cycle-run five day streak. Regained a Strava CR last night - yay! Was knocked off the pedestal a couple of weeks ago so had to try and get it back.
This week - tap dancing restarts tonight, after that I think I have a few days rest until Parkrun.
As for all the boxes, you know you will still have some unpacked in 2 years' time.
We have a subsidence claim that is seven months in and as of yet still no end in site, so I can very much understand your frustrations.
On the running front, I continue to train for upcoming HM in a few weeks. I am considering altering my penultimate week to keep the mileage up before tapering in the run up, as I ususally drop my long run the Sunday before, but I don't feel I need to looking at Abi's plans.
Also, looking forward to the speed challenge starting.
Yes, I really think that tapering belongs to the full marathon, and if you're feeling good there's no reason to drop distance or intensity the week before a half - just get some rest in the couple of days before the event πππ
Well, at the weekend I put my Garmin charging cable in a safe place. Naturally, today I have had to buy a new one on Amazon Prime speedy delivery. Gahhhhh
Iβve been painting last week so moving some boxes could be good cross training for this week
Bus WiFi well done
A part from painting last week was my first taper week... 45-50 miles without the weekend (we were on holiday :))
This week I have another short week, but I have a 3x1600mt at 5 k effort with 2β recovery in between on Thursday ... and thatβs fast so Iβve a but if a workout coming
Started the week with a bang by putting in a joggy HM to get the long run distance back up to the HM distance. Plan to keep it that way every week from now on before moving into marathon training in the summer.
Good luck with those boxes and the internet Sqkr .
I started my week with a local 5 mile race which was absolutely beautiful. My plan is deliciously empty right now. Just want to run 20k before the end of the month, no pressure, no drama, no expectations - just to be enjoyed.
Hello all. I did my first 17 miler on Good Friday. Iβm feeling more confident about starting marathon training in June although Iβm not sure Iβll get another 9 miles added on at the moment π€£
Well done Tasha! I did a 17.5mile trail run on Saturday too, and incorporated parkrun for the last 3 miles - my longest run to date. Like you, I will start marathon plan proper in the summer but am just extending my weekly long run a little this week. New interesting routes and an audiobook definitely help! π
Hi all, sat in the waiting room at the physio for a check on progress since being on one leg 2 weeks ago. Have been for an 8 mile cycle, several pool swims and my first open water venture in a wetsuit π₯Ά but other than that just been doing my physio exercises. Torn the labrum in my hip years ago - led to Osteoarthritis- and recent increasing distances seem to have inflamed it again. Plus ITB was/is tight and quads on same leg. So Equi-geek is on βbox-restβ, with no hard feed and limited prescribed exercise. Boo. Wish I could get stem cells as easy as a horse can.... my patience is running out and may have to resort to being put on a wait list for hip replacement surgery after all π. At least I am βold enoughβ now π€£. In nicer news the OH has said if I find another horse I can buy it, even though my business is still nowhere near supporting me financially yet. Hoping to land some grant money soon and then later this year delivering a foundation course in equine behaviour, which will be degree level, as part of a new organisation several of us are launching in May. Very exciting and hopefully pretty high profile which will help with product development. Anyway, ramble over, nice reading about everyone elseβs stuff and am still hoping to get a HM done in September π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»π€π»
Last week was really good for me. Two runs on the Isle of Wight at the beginning of last week (I survived the wind!) and parkrun in the heat at Bedfont Lakes, near Heathrow. This week, I have a 10K coming up on Saturday, so I'll only run twice this week. Not that my run went very well yesterday. I felt oddly sluggish, but at least I completed the distance I had planned - although I walked quite a bit.
Good luck with your boxes, Sqkr. Just get them unpacked this year. I only put the artwork back on our wall this year, almost 5 years after the refurbishment.
This morning I ran my last serious workout before the marathon, only 10 days left now!!!
The plan was to go to the track and do 3X1600 mt. at 5k pace with 2 minutes jog + 4 miles (warm up - cool down). I am very happy with the outcome, especially considering that I was out the door at 5:15 am and on the track at 5:30/45...
I kept a very constant 90' per lap throughout the workout, hitting 6 minutes each 1600. what made the day was how easily I recovered after each repetition. With some more dedicated training, I will probably be able to get a good 5K PB over the summer, if I find a race.
