Dreaming is free... ๐Ÿ˜Š Weekly Chat November 5th to the 11th

Heyup - welcome to a new week!

Time for a coffee (tea? biscuit?) and a bit of running chat, I reckon.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion ๐Ÿ˜Š

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

The New York City Marathon was yesterday - I'd so love to run in that one day!!!! What have you been dreaming about?

And did you see any nice fireworks over the weekend?

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ju-Ju, Sqkr, and roseabi

Lacking rest, swimming, or strength? Or all of them?

Reply

Strength. Not done any since I hurt my hand over a month ago. My P T resigned from the gym which hasnโ€™t helped. I canโ€™t put any weight on the heel of my hand. Itโ€™s nerve damage which just has to heal Canโ€™t lift, pull either. Iโ€™m thinking itโ€™s a bit late to worry about it now.

Yeah, don't worry about it!

Although, may I suggest forearm planks?

Reply

Yes! I was thinking about those. My PT had me doing those at the end of the session. Timed ๐Ÿ˜ณ. I was good Fancy ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

I dreamt about working yesterday night, then I got up and went to work. Urgh! The worst! And I didn't even win a Bafta in the awards last night. But I have a day off today so I'm just writing up my running diary (I'm a bit behind!), having a coffee and trying to decide how to plan my running week around more work and MY BIRTHDAY ๐ŸŽ‚

YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!! Will you be having a birthday run??

Reply

Probably not, I'll be late home from work as I got a surprise booking for the flipping One Show of all things! Happy birthday me ๐Ÿ˜ญ But I'm doing the night run round the Kelpies on Sunday which I'll take as my birthday run, albeit a good few days late ๐Ÿ˜Š

I ran with a lady who was literally hot foot from the NYC marathon last year. It was like being in the presence of royalty. She was lovely, provided cake for all and chatted to everyone. She was doing a double marathon too so itโ€™s not like she wasnโ€™t busy ๐Ÿ˜

You draw inspiration from peeps like her ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

I am off out in a sec for a 16km training run put off from yesters as I was dog sitting Just had my espressoโ˜•๏ธ After this itโ€™s all shorter runs til marathon day (I hope/think)

I am going to compile my race list today I think ๐Ÿค” First on list Hula Hoops ๐Ÿ˜. The What to pack dilemma almost tipped me over the edge last year ๐Ÿ™ˆ

You can end up packing twice as much as you need because you donโ€™t know what the weather will be like on the day despite following the weather forecast ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿง๐Ÿค”. So I did lots of packing and unpacking ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ค.

Have a good week everyone. Have fun ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I have been looking at how people train for an ultra, just out of curiosity of course. You would have to be crazy to do one of them! like I said just looking and have no intention of signing up for any kind of ultra race I was merely looking at how hard it would be to carry on after training for say a marathon next April.

Reply

you want to do one as well? :)

thats an amazing time I think, if my marathon PB is 4hrs 30 then x 4 is about 100miles I should do it in just over 17hrs!

Iโ€™ve been through the first week of the long distance plan. Still working out the balance between runs and cross train days. 16k on Saturday. Next week jumps to 19k. Also started reading โ€œBorn to Runโ€ about the Tarahumara people in the Copper Canyons of Mexico. Fascinating read so far. Also picked up some reflective bands and lights as it is full dark now for the wed evening runs.

Also just saw a video doc called โ€œSwift Feetโ€ on the Tahumaras. Also time well spent. And thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

They are great runners and I love their outfits - except for their sandals, they look so uncomfortable to me ๐Ÿ˜„

Reply

I was amazed to see them run for hours in those sandals, but their feet look tough as nails. I wonder if the minimalist footwear designs may have been inspired by some of these stories?

Reply

I expect so. And having said they look uncomfortable to me I have been eyeing running sandals - imagine how lovely and cool they'd be! I hate those bits between the toes though, which most of them seem to have...

Reply

Yep. Their sandals sort of become part of them. I donโ€™t think they take em off Made with old tyres apparently

Oo I've been listening to this on Audible ๐Ÿ˜€ I say listening, I keep falling asleep on the bus so it's taking a while, though that's no reflection on the book!

I also got the audio book from the library, but the book is so engaging, Iโ€™d rather read it which is unusual for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of dreaming, Iโ€™ve lately been perusing this list of the worldโ€™s best marathons: dailyburn.com/life/fitness/...

I would love to do Iceland and Big Sur at some point before my window closes ๐Ÿ™‚ Big Sur seems to already be sold out for next year!

I'm doing Iceland next year, though only the half as I'm forbidden from doing any full marathons till my birthday in 2020 (pal and are I doing a milestone marathon together!). But I will write a comprehensive report of course ๐Ÿ˜ Iceland is wonderful. I'd be happy to move there permanently!

I also didn't win a Bafta, but fortunately no call up to the One Show either - so every cloud an' all that...

Time to taper this week as I prepare to run my last race in 2018 as a fast, flat 5k on Sat. So I'm hopeful of both a good-time and a good time!!

A run of the mill 10km trot out this morning. Feeling a bit demotivated at the moment - probably just the change in season.

I might enter this so Iโ€™ve a goal to train for.

Looks good! You are right, it's great to have something to work towards when running conditions are putting you off ๐Ÿ˜Š

Reply

Well, Iโ€™ve entered so hopefully that will keep me going through Winter! I might have successfully twisted a friends arm to give it a go too.

To be honest itโ€™s not the running conditions that puts me off - I much prefer cooler/cold weather to run in than hot weather. I think itโ€™s just mood change caused by the lack of light. But of course, after running I feel much better in that regard.

Had a good run on Saturday and got my first 5k under 22mins! Since then have felt a bit lost? Kind of tapering a bit this week before my 7mile race next weekend but not sure how much to reduce things so will still do a reasonable mileage this week. Donโ€™t tell, but I may have signed up for a marathon next autumn, so have plenty of time to train... but it is a bit scary! Iโ€™ve also been dreaming of lovely trails like the malhamdale half marathon next May....but perhaps in 2020 that one as I have quite a few races lined up now for next year..

Wow, well done for the 5K!!!! And a marathon, awesome!!!

Taper time is really only necessary for a marathon. Just take some rest for a day or two before the race so your legs are fresh.

Not feeling too bad have been shown how to tape up my ankle too as that's been bit niggly few weeks back. We shall see tomorrow night on the trail run!! We backmarked at club tonight and were chatting away and ended up good few mins following intermediate group on their route instead of ours so a bit extra for us*blaming our friends in front! ๐Ÿ˜‚

We, me and OH have been on hols for a week, decided no running after the 10 miler, HM and 10k events back to back......and what did we find? The Long Course Weekend, Mallorca ...(iron man thing) ....swim day Saturday, bike day Sunday, run day Monday, with a choice of 5k, 10k, HM and M.....all the crazies did the longest of each...๐Ÿคช...as I had no gear, counted myself out, but OH did the 10k, cut down a pair of linen shorts, in a pair of soft walking shoes....nut case! Nice medal though....says โ€˜marathonโ€™ on the ribbon.....๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚

a local (Cambridge) guy and apparent ultra legend, won the menโ€™s overall competition - Tom Vickery , they are all mad! I now understand the need for padded shorts when cycling.....๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Not for me.......๐Ÿ˜ฑ

a) Iโ€™d drown in the sea - 3.8km swim? I wouldnโ€™t make 50 metres! - and who wants goggle face anyway? ๐Ÿ˜‚

b) Iโ€™d fall off my bike - and anyway, I donโ€™t think a ladies shopper is quite the thing...for a 172km bike ride

c) the marathon was 4 loops, Iโ€™d have been on the floor crying after the first one....

I am however in awe at those who do these things....

Have a good week, all

Just checking in quickly. I'm swamped with work and have a nasty cold, so no running or anything for me. I saw my naprapath yesterday, and we agreed that things are coming along so well that I don't need more treatment for now. I'll catch up with you all later!
