Time for a coffee (tea? biscuit?) and a bit of running chat, I reckon.
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion ๐
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
The New York City Marathon was yesterday - I'd so love to run in that one day!!!! What have you been dreaming about?
And did you see any nice fireworks over the weekend?
Have a great week, and enjoy your runs ๐

Strength. Not done any since I hurt my hand over a month ago. My P T resigned from the gym which hasnโt helped. I canโt put any weight on the heel of my hand. Itโs nerve damage which just has to heal Canโt lift, pull either. Iโm thinking itโs a bit late to worry about it now.
I dreamt about working yesterday night, then I got up and went to work. Urgh! The worst! And I didn't even win a Bafta in the awards last night. But I have a day off today so I'm just writing up my running diary (I'm a bit behind!), having a coffee and trying to decide how to plan my running week around more work and MY BIRTHDAY ๐
Probably not, I'll be late home from work as I got a surprise booking for the flipping One Show of all things! Happy birthday me ๐ญ But I'm doing the night run round the Kelpies on Sunday which I'll take as my birthday run, albeit a good few days late ๐
I ran with a lady who was literally hot foot from the NYC marathon last year. It was like being in the presence of royalty. She was lovely, provided cake for all and chatted to everyone. She was doing a double marathon too so itโs not like she wasnโt busy ๐
You draw inspiration from peeps like her ๐๐ช๐โโ๏ธ๐
I am off out in a sec for a 16km training run put off from yesters as I was dog sitting Just had my espressoโ๏ธ After this itโs all shorter runs til marathon day (I hope/think)
I am going to compile my race list today I think ๐ค First on list Hula Hoops ๐. The What to pack dilemma almost tipped me over the edge last year ๐
You can end up packing twice as much as you need because you donโt know what the weather will be like on the day despite following the weather forecast ๐ค๐ง๐ค. So I did lots of packing and unpacking ๐๐ค.
Have a good week everyone. Have fun ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
I have been looking at how people train for an ultra, just out of curiosity of course. You would have to be crazy to do one of them! like I said just looking and have no intention of signing up for any kind of ultra race I was merely looking at how hard it would be to carry on after training for say a marathon next April.
I almost got away... am at airport now ready to leave NC. However a funny thing happened between Fort Bragg and here... I am now honour bound to run the Marine Corp Marathon next October...
Iโve been through the first week of the long distance plan. Still working out the balance between runs and cross train days. 16k on Saturday. Next week jumps to 19k. Also started reading โBorn to Runโ about the Tarahumara people in the Copper Canyons of Mexico. Fascinating read so far. Also picked up some reflective bands and lights as it is full dark now for the wed evening runs.
I was amazed to see them run for hours in those sandals, but their feet look tough as nails. I wonder if the minimalist footwear designs may have been inspired by some of these stories?
I expect so. And having said they look uncomfortable to me I have been eyeing running sandals - imagine how lovely and cool they'd be! I hate those bits between the toes though, which most of them seem to have...
Oo I've been listening to this on Audible ๐ I say listening, I keep falling asleep on the bus so it's taking a while, though that's no reflection on the book!
I'm doing Iceland next year, though only the half as I'm forbidden from doing any full marathons till my birthday in 2020 (pal and are I doing a milestone marathon together!). But I will write a comprehensive report of course ๐ Iceland is wonderful. I'd be happy to move there permanently!
Well, Iโve entered so hopefully that will keep me going through Winter! I might have successfully twisted a friends arm to give it a go too.
To be honest itโs not the running conditions that puts me off - I much prefer cooler/cold weather to run in than hot weather. I think itโs just mood change caused by the lack of light. But of course, after running I feel much better in that regard.
Oh I see! Sorry to hear that it affects you so ๐ I seem to be lucky in that respect, and I just love the opportunity for extra sleep! I suppose I should sort out some better blinds for our flat ๐ I like switching to evening runs too.
Wow, you did it!! Enjoy your training ๐๐๐
Had a good run on Saturday and got my first 5k under 22mins! Since then have felt a bit lost? Kind of tapering a bit this week before my 7mile race next weekend but not sure how much to reduce things so will still do a reasonable mileage this week. Donโt tell, but I may have signed up for a marathon next autumn, so have plenty of time to train... but it is a bit scary! Iโve also been dreaming of lovely trails like the malhamdale half marathon next May....but perhaps in 2020 that one as I have quite a few races lined up now for next year..
I had a puffed up back of knee (New injury for me!) which made me rest up all last week ๐ but ok for parkrun so back out there tonight at club with off road hilly run tomorrow night too. Only week or so to Gosport HM eeeeek! Longer run at the weekend hopefully! Have a good week everyone!
Got ouchy sports massage tonight too so that will sort me out a bit I hope!
Not feeling too bad have been shown how to tape up my ankle too as that's been bit niggly few weeks back. We shall see tomorrow night on the trail run!! We backmarked at club tonight and were chatting away and ended up good few mins following intermediate group on their route instead of ours so a bit extra for us*blaming our friends in front! ๐
We, me and OH have been on hols for a week, decided no running after the 10 miler, HM and 10k events back to back......and what did we find? The Long Course Weekend, Mallorca ...(iron man thing) ....swim day Saturday, bike day Sunday, run day Monday, with a choice of 5k, 10k, HM and M.....all the crazies did the longest of each...๐คช...as I had no gear, counted myself out, but OH did the 10k, cut down a pair of linen shorts, in a pair of soft walking shoes....nut case! Nice medal though....says โmarathonโ on the ribbon.....๐ค๐
a local (Cambridge) guy and apparent ultra legend, won the menโs overall competition - Tom Vickery , they are all mad! I now understand the need for padded shorts when cycling.....๐๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ดโโ๏ธ
Not for me.......๐ฑ
a) Iโd drown in the sea - 3.8km swim? I wouldnโt make 50 metres! - and who wants goggle face anyway? ๐
b) Iโd fall off my bike - and anyway, I donโt think a ladies shopper is quite the thing...for a 172km bike ride
c) the marathon was 4 loops, Iโd have been on the floor crying after the first one....
I am however in awe at those who do these things....
Just checking in quickly. I'm swamped with work and have a nasty cold, so no running or anything for me. I saw my naprapath yesterday, and we agreed that things are coming along so well that I don't need more treatment for now. I'll catch up with you all later!
Got a fancy head torch for my birthday! A Petzl Reactik+ with optional 300 lumens. Think there will be some midnight runs in the hills coming up ๐ Also a fancy new merino buff, in a lovely Icelandic Floki pattern. Mr Sqkr is good at taking hints ๐
