Give me strength!!!

I REALLY don't know about this attempt at the marathon. I know that we shouldn't look too far ahead - just do a longrun and wait for the next one (in my case in two weeks time) . I did 24K today with a friend - I am run/walking it and only want to finish within the cutoff time of 6hours 20 mins - which means a 9 minute per K pace. I have found that by simply running easily for 30 seconds and walking for 60 seconds , I can average that pace and I did so today up to 22K when it all got too much and I had to walk the final 2K. It DID get hot - it was around 22C at 5:30AM when we started out and by the time we got back at just after 9:00AM , it was 30C!! BUT - it was only 9 mins per k - some people can walk that fast. This one did hurt today !!! There were hills today too!! No hills and a bit cooler two weeks ago for 22K.

I look forward to struggling with km’s 23 and 24! You hit the pace though, in 30 degree heat! Marathon day should be cooler and you’re just over half the distance so there’s plenty of time yet. Some people can walk the marathon under 3:30... I’m not even planning on being in sight of those guys at the finish line ever 😂. You did hills too! How hilly is the marathon? I think you’re well on track here.

Yes - it wont be 30C - but even in winter our midday temps are around 25C :) and no hills during the race :) As I said - don't look too far ahead!!!!

I’m still looking behind me... usually for fast runners coming through 😂

I plan ahead but only really think about the next run, I arrange them to fit my life every Monday, but that’s the only time I think of my weekend run... maybe we should meet in the middle somewhere? Pretty sure I’ll need to be looking further ahead than one run!

25 in winter... in Celsius? OMG... I think it would take me years to adapt to that

It's hotter in Singapore - a little :)

Sounds like things will get a lot easier once your ambient temperatures start dropping Bazza? Hills and 30 deg C ! I tried running in unusual 30 deg summer temps here in Finland last year and I can say it felt a extra 30% harder simply due to the heat stress and sweating. Try out a longer run/walk at night maybe? Temps might be similar to those at event time?

Yeh, some people who are maybe 50 years younger can walk that pace. And many, many people your age can’t walk 1k, let alone 24 or 42. You’re amazing, Bazza! So don’t beat yourself up.

This ^^^^

You're an inspiration Bazza. I've no doubt that once the weather is a little cooler you'll do it.

I probably bore you all to death every time I write that "I run like a Metronome" but it's mostly true.

It baffles the living crap out of me that no matter how great or how effed up my run - and myself - feel, it's ALWAYS within three or less minutes finishing times over the 5k, 10k, 10 miles and any other same measured routes I run.

MOSTLY :)

In the 5k, 10k and 10 mile races I've entered so far - I did WHOPPINGLY better, even though I was focusing on NOT running too fast.

Five minutes off usual 5k, I forget the 10k time because I ran while feeling I'll but it still surprised the hell out of me...and an unbelievable 28 minutes off for the 10th miler even though I ran REALLY slow for the last half mile to encourage a badly struggling lady to finish.

So, on your Marathon Day Bazza the adrenaline boost and good vibes from the onlookers (and your VRBs here 😉) will probably give you the energy to pass that finish line quite nicely 🙂

Anyway, win lose or draw that day - you will still be not only a Runner, but a very Inspirational one 😊

I find the heat so much harder to run in Bazza. With your race in slightly cooler temps, that may make a big difference in your endurance. Like you say don’t look too far ahead, just focus on the training in front of you now 🙂. I also found the electrolyte water mix drinks like tailwind or nuun really make a big energy difference to me on hot runs, but you likely already have a good plan for hydration.

I think I did not attend to both my hydration and nutrition well enough - I will try better next time. I do find that hydration and nutrition during a run to be somewhat akin to taking a vitamin pill. It is probably very good for you - but you don't really feel it at the time. Anyway my research has revealed to me that we should have 200 cals per hour after an hour and our bodyweight immediately after a run should not be less that 97% of what it was before the run. Don't know if there is any science in these numbers but they kind of sound right to me :)
