Transport to the start line at Preston Park

Is anyone doing the Brighton Marathon on 14th April. I am staying at Upper Rock Gardens near the front and the organisers say it is a half hour walk away from the Marine Parade. Is this too much considering I will be doing the Marathon or should I treat it as a warm up and set off in plenty of time so I am not rushing. Tomorrow is the deadline for transfer to the 10K. So I can still drop to the 10K but I still have to go to the same place, Preston Park not that I am going to. I am just going to take it easy, not go off too fast. Hoping my more miles socks will help reduce the soreness in my feet. They worked when I did the 18miles on the treadmill but outside I don't know but Sunday's half marathon will be the test. Sorry for the long post.

Our hotel is about a half hour walk from the start too, I've booked a spot on park & ride, just in case, but will probably walk it.

Where are you staying if you don't mind me asking?you don't have to tell me. I am at Colson House Upper Rock Gardens. I stayed somewhere else in February which was very nice and would stay there again but had already booked for April.

Nice. I will be wearing a purple t-shirt with run walk run repeat on the back and Dawn's Running Pals on the front and my name so if you see me say hi

I walk about that far to get to Brighton Marathon, it's fine - a good warm up! Get there early and you will have plenty of time for a sit down before the start. Lots of people will be walking that way on the day, it's a fun atmosphere 😊😊😊

Thanks roseabi. Is it the main entrance to Preston Park? I don't suppose I will get lost as will follow other runners.

You have to go to the far end of the park to enter, but yes it will be obvious where to go when you get there. Talking to you about all this really makes me want to do it again! 😊😊😊

Thanks Roseabi. Bless you. I am nervous but excited. I have absolutely no idea how I will feel when I get to 18miles as to whether I will finish. I have not told family as I am going to be stressed enough. If I finish it will be a surprise. All they know is I am doing another running event in Brighton.

I like to go it alone too, it's much easier than trying to organise people when all I want to do is get into that marathon zone 😊 I am sure you will be able to give them an amazing surprise when you tell them you've run the Brighton Marathon!!! xxx

Exactly. I have had an email with participants instructions. Also the shop but it closes on Mother's Day 31st March. I don't want to waste money buying a t-shirt or whatever if I then don't finish the marathon as would not feel entitled to wear it if I did not finish however they may not have my size in the event village after the race if I wait until then. Should I wait and see if I finish first or order anyway?

Order it...you will do it!!!

I don't think you can bank on being able to buy one after the race, if you really want one you'd be better off ordering it now and collecting it when you pick up your race number. I guess it can be an added incentive to finish!

Personally I didn't bother last year, they gave us a "competitor" t-shirt at registration and that was good enough for me! Actually I really like it, it's my favourite race t-shirt 😊

This year's one looks like it just says Brighton Marathon 2019 on it (no "competitor" - I think quite a lot of people complained about that last year!).

About the word competitor? The half one just has a picture like the medal on the back and a small one on the front with the date of the race. I ordered it after the race with my itab.

I have ordered a hoodie so it will give me a incentive to finish as you say.

The half marathon is run by a different company.

Because we were given a "competitor" shirt (implying we might not have actually finished the race) before the race instead of a "finisher" one after the race, it felt like a ploy to make us spend money on their merch., as we had to purchase a "finisher" t shirt if we wanted one. This year they have just put "Brighton Marathon 2019" on the shirt you get at registration (I think), which is a rather better souvenir, I suppose 😊 But anyway,I still love them 💗

Yay, wear that hoodie with pride!! xx
