I hope you are all still having fun with your half marathon training!
I am sad to see that Jay66UK has decided not to continue with the plan at this time, but I know you're doing the right thing, Jay! Have fun with your running and keep us posted!! xxx
π₯ As for the rest of us - who is trainingall the way through Christmas? Who is taking a break?
I am taking days off during the next couple of weeks because I think it's easiest for me just to admit that it's unlikely I'll get near my trainers on certain days π
π₯ Did everyone see the extra strength circuit I posted a couple of weeks ago? Has anyone tried it? What did you think?
π₯ How is everyone getting on with their speedintervals runs? I hope you all saw the post last week with ideas for intervals workouts, but if not here it is:
For my speed run this coming week I am actually hoping to attend parkrun for a change, yayyy π
π But whatever you're doing, I hope you have a bit of time over the next couple of weeks to relax with family and/or friends!
You may have already seen this on Strava, but I went out for my run yesterday with the intention of doing a bit of 'HO HO HO' Strava art. Unfortunately I failed to realise how time-consuming (and tedious!) it would be to spell all of that out, so I ended up with a mere and feeble 'HO HO' πππ
Anyway, have yourselves a merry little holidays, and I'll see you all next week!

Pulled up 3.5k in to what was supposed to be a 20k run this morning with a pain in my foot. Same foot that interrupt ed my HM training last year, but unlike Lars year I was sensible enough to stop.
Fortunately I had planned a few days break during Xmas week, so hopefully this will be enough rest period and I only need to slightly adjust my plant to accommodate.
Sorry to hear about the injury. I'm in the same boat as you. I had planned a long run Xmas day but pulled up on my last run with knee pain. Oh well plenty of time to train before April. Enjoy your rest and have a wonderful Christmas.
It's going well I think?!? Sticking to my very loose plan although I didn't do a long run last week as I had too much to do - nothing like leaving Christmas to the last minute π I did manage 3 runs though (9k, 7k and parkrun).
Hope to get out tomorrow to do a steady 90mins then again for a 10k club run Boxing Day and 7-8k on Friday. No parkrun for me this week as I have to leave for a rehearsal at 8am βΉοΈ Hope to do the New Year's Day one but we're looking a bit short of volunteers so I'll do that if needed. My cross training will have to take a bit of a backseat for the next couple of weeks mainly because my son will be hogging the telly playing PlayStation from morning till night π
I have to be a bit careful with intervals as running fast was how I injured my hamstring a couple of months ago. I've been advised to increase my effort and pace over longer distances/periods of time to stop it recurring. Was going to do a fast last km at parkrun this week but when it came to it I unfortunately couldn't find the motivation to up my effort into the wind. Ran fast for the last 300m but that's not what I'm supposed to be doing! xx
Well done, and I'm glad you're being careful with that hamstring! I have had that problem too - the combination of desk job and fast running is terrible π’
Don't worry about missing a few workouts over Christmas, or ever xxx
Ho Ho Ho-pe to get out as much as possible over the next few days. I only seem to be able to run(jog) at one pace. Am going to have a go with the jog-run-sprint app to push me to go faster - a comparative term
Haha nice work Abi! π Happy Christmas! Though not in the HM plan, my only 2018 remaining goal is to do 8.4k to get to 1500 this year. Maybe later today or tomorrow...
Still going reasonably well for me so far. Will have to juggle things a little bit this coming week and move the long run to Boxing Day. Looking forward to that - 18k will be a new distance for me so I will be working very hard to keep the pace down (shouldn't be too hard after the inevitable excesses of the previous day). The days I struggle with are those with strength exercises at home (yep, today is one of those days and I'm still putting it off) - I just don't enjoy it, but I will persevere
A very Merry Christmas to everyone, hope you all have a wonderful few days with friends and family x
thank you roseabi have a lovely time yourself I'm 68 yrs young tomorrow, Christmas eve, so I'm going out in morning to run 6.8 miles, just because I can, then shall have a rest Christmas day
Plan had been going ok, thanks - with several days moving around each week though. Was planning to do a Christmas Day Parkrun, and had my long run cycling back down to 10k for this week.
Sadly my neck βflare upβ is still temperamental though, and Iβm taking too many βtop up drugsβ for them to keep being effective much longer. So if needed Iβll take a short break and hope things settle down. (Thatβs one reason it made good sense for me to start my HM plan very early for a May HM!) Will be careful and play things by ear from one day to the next...
Wishing you and everyone here a wonderful Christmas, however you all choose to spend it! ππβοΈβοΈβ€οΈ
My plan has been going well, apart from missing cross-training two weeks in a row - just been too busy! Have kept up with the runs though - made it to 14k today, my furthest so far. It was supposed to be 13k but went the wrong way near the end so it ended up a bit further. Really enjoying exploring new routes - went down the sweetest most peaceful country lanes today, that really put a smile on my face, despite being soaked through from endless rain π
Family arriving tomorrow so a rest day for me. Hoping to sneak in a quick run early Christmas morning π€ Happy festivities everyone π ππ
Sneaked a quick one in Christmas Eve... a bit of strength exercise Tues & yesterday... and the easy pace 5K this morning with a few intervals in there...feeling like I am getting on target again...
Hi Abi and everyone following the HM plan at the moment. Just wanted to let you know that Iβm going to step out of the plan for a while. My HM isnβt until October and Iβm finding it hard to find safe, longer routes in the dark evenings. So Iβm going to focus on my 10k distances (have 3 races booked March- May) and will pick up HM training in the Spring when the evenings get lighter. Happy running to you all; Iβll continue to follow your progress - youβre inspirational π₯° xxx
Seems sensible, and it's more fun for most people to train during the summer - I certainly prefer it! Hope you'll continue to share your thoughts on these HM posts! Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2019, and lots of fun with your 10Ks!! xxx
