Beer may be good for recovery
Best news all week! I knew I was doing something right! I really couldn't stomach beer after my marathon though (and I can usually be relied on to sink a few in short order) - I struggled to drink one beer after the race despite my mates offering copious top-ups! Water went down a treat though!
Lovely.πππ
Trouble is when I get that taste I cannot stop.π
So now I boringly do not start and I am too old to be doing ultra marathons anyway.ππππ
You Keep finding the good stuff Decker.πππ₯πββοΈπ₯
Your probably better off for it Tbae. I thought we were getting a beer at our race on Sunday but there was none to be had.
That'll work for me!
Have you seen that Sufferfest beer? Developed by big name ultra runners, it's a beer with added electrolytes, and not the only one out there. Clever marketing idea π
Iβve not seen this but itβs not surprising after reading this article. Going to see if it is available locally...
I went to a beer festival on friday before our race and there were some gems to be had. But I behaved π
Just the one though π. Some beers are rich in iron too Iβm sure thereβll be a handy chart somewhere π§
The social aspect π€¨.Hmmmm. Wasnβt convinced π You could just as well have a cuppa tea ππ
I always have a Guinness after a long run
βBβ vitamins never tasted so good - plenty in beer.π
Erdinger Alkoholfrei (so not real beer !?) was handed out at the end of York Marathon Booklet blurb says : refreshing, isotonic, B vits - yes, but is it actually π»?
My answer to that is: No, it's revolting!! π
They were handing it out after the Brighton Marathon too. Pints! Most people were only having a couple of mouthfuls and then leaving them on the ground for the poor volunteers to throw away π
My Dad was a brewer and always used to joke that the flavour depended on the colour of his socks heβd washed in the starter π. Maybe they need to find a decent colour of sock to begin with.
πππ.Aww Annie you just got to have a laugh.πππ
So thatβs where the great flavours come from! π
A brewer! How interesting π€. I visited Brampton brewery for the tour. Itβs about as big as my bathroom so we had to stand in one spot π. I came away with a boot full of spent hops βΊοΈ
Don't know about the beer, but drinking a bunch of High5 tablets I got free in a race goody bag definitely helped me survive a long hen weekend in Manchester not so long ago. Running has given me so much more than just tough legs π
The running club I'm wondering about joining appears to have a big focus on beer (though categorically not lager). They've got some cracking athletes in their midst, they must be harnessing this knowledge already.
Do you think I could substitute the beer for wine? π
Absolutely! Apparently it is excercise in a bottle: eurekalert.org/pub_releases...
My Strava running "club" is based from a real ale pub in Helsinki! The first beer after the beer/club run is free ( which at Helsinki prices is nothing short of a miracle!). So serious runners have known about beer's magical properties all along?
I need to visit Helsinki
My club is the Helsinki Chapter mikkellerrunningclub.dk/cha...
It looks like there is a Toronto Chapter too
Too much is no good though βοΈ
Ha! Praise the Lord! Whenever I run certain routes where l know I would not be required to operate a motor vehicle, l always, without hesitation, second thought or deep analysis, I always (after a run) order and enjoy a pint, or two, of my favourite lager. The bar staff know me, they expect to see a slim, sweaty guy in basketball gear, and they know the score. How does cold beer feel after a run, summer or winter? Great, of course!
