HM recovery?

I'm fairly sure my last HM plan included recovery runs, but I can't remember what I did...

Any advice? How many days to take off, or keep moving with shorter runs? Run/walks?

I generally give myself 2 or 3 days off running after a HM, but make sure I walk as usual plus do some restorative stretchy yoga. I had no ill effects last time, and did a gentle run 2 days later. I guess it depends on how your body feels. πŸ˜€

I feel fine, I was surprised how quickly I recovered. I walked today, might try an easy run tomorrow

I usually take my legs for a short jog the day after A walk would probably suffice πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Yes a few days off, maybe even a week off running would be beneficial if you are still doing other things to stay active. Or perhaps a super easy run in a couple of days just to keep things ticking over if not running makes you crazy like me :)

Yep, I go crazy... I'm used to running 5 days a week, even if they're short easy runs. I was thinking of just going out tomorrow, there's somewhere I want to see, so maybe a bit of running, a bit or walking....and of course there's the HUHM on Sunday - I've signed up for 10K...

That sounds like a good plan. Best of luck with the 10k!

So long as you don't go crazy I'm sure you'll be fine to run. Several people seem to run the day after a HM, nice and slow, just to keep everything stretched. Blisters usually stop me from trying that πŸ™„πŸ˜Š

Thank you. I looked at what I did last time, seems I trained quite hard quite soon afterwards... It didn't kill me haha - no intention of going that hard this time...

When I had my shoe fit I mentioned my blister issue. A fellow runner appeared at the door saying he was the same. The shoe guy, a very good runner on all surfaces, suggested that it was lack of strength in the glutes. Build the leg strength through exercises was his advice. He said that when I tire at the end of a longer run the running action gets harder so I dig in with the toes and forefoot. I blanch as I type 😁

So, something to work on πŸ™‚

Interesting! but not a quick fix πŸ˜₯ Tomorrow I'm trying Engo patches again. When I did the marathon I had very little in the way of blisters but I had changed three things: run/walk, Rockay socks and Engo plasters. Since then I have done the first two and still blistered ... so tomorrow I'm trying all three again πŸ€žπŸ™ Better work cos I don't like glute exercises πŸ˜•

I’ve got the new Nikes but they’re not broken in yet so blisters are a possibility. I shall wear my bestest anti blister socks and hope for the best. Vaseline to be lavishly applied 😁

I am going to do some strength stuff as I’ve not been πŸ™ˆ

I think everyone is different but I take a whole week off after running a HM. I do move lots though to stop any stiffness and stretch, foam roll, Pilates, etc. I like to think of it as a β€œreset” and it works well for me.

I'm planning an easier week overall, no speedwork and will see how I feel about distance. I have a ten miler club challenge coming up on the 11th so will definitely need to recover well without slacking off entirely.
