Hello running pals! Oof, that was a big weekend of events...I'm loving reading all about them, keep 'em coming!

But sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up and just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion :)

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs :)

The last week has not been a good week for me... unfortunately I am dealing with a bad flu and cough, I suspect a chest infection of some entity and I do not want to risk any degeneration due to running in the cold mornings... so no run in the last week :(

Actually I am not sure when I should start running again. do I need all symptoms to clear up or just feeling a bit better ?? we'll see next week is a new week and hopefully I will manage to get out a few times :)

hope you had a great weekend!

happy running

Marco

Best to wait until your chest clears. Conventional wisdom is that it's OK to run if the symptoms are only above the neck, and if there is no fever. Feel better!! xx

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to marco83

Oh eck Marco. Sorry to hear youโ€™re not very well Run when you feel well enough. I raced with a hacking couch I started with a cough sweet in my mouth and had spares. I didnโ€™t cough once! I suppose the act of running opens everything up - chest, airways, diaphragm, nostrils. Etc etc I took Big cotton hankies so I could have a good blow ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿคง๐Ÿคง

If you feel unwell donโ€™t run

C3PO profile image
C3POMarathon in reply to marco83

The word flu says it all. No running until the symptoms clear up, or you'll pay for it later (i.e. be out of action for longer than if you waited). Get well, Marco!

I hope you feel much better soon, till then take the opportunity to simply relaaaaaax ๐Ÿ˜Š Running prolongs a chesty illness in my experienceโ€”and I've had plenty this year, I've caught so many bugs! The running part actually doesn't feel too bad once you're over the horrible aching stage, you might find yourself thinking this is great! This is helping! I can finally breathe freely! But...it's when you stop ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Your lungs seize up, all your breathing tubes go small and pathetic, you cough and wheeze and approach death and it's just horrid. Not worth risking I say!

Love that picture!

I have ONE run left on my training plan!!! It says: "Walk or jog 10 mins" ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Srsly????

Not sure it's worth bothering, but I reckon just for a laugh I'll go round the Lagoon and then have a coffee in the Cafe afterwards ๐Ÿ˜Š

Marathon on Saturday!!!! Not loving the weather forecast atm... ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks. Im looking at it like a visit to the dentist (or giving birth - at my age ๐Ÿ˜ฎ)itโ€™s happening youโ€™ve just got to get on with it.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to AnnieW55

Speaking of dentist, I go tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I had a Young nhs physio for my shin splint job and he was a runner. I felt really positive once I started the exercises. Itโ€™s a boost to be rehabbing yourself. I used to walk there and back (luckily I could by then, after waiting ages for treatment) he used to give me things to do with my feet on the way home ๐Ÿ˜

The exercises proper toned my legs too. Theyโ€™d never looked so good. Slipped a bit since mind โ˜บ๏ธ

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to misswobble

Good Luck for tomorrow. I went a couple of weeks ago, all ok for another 6 months phew!

Glad your physio was a good one. My mind is working overtime on what youโ€™re feet were doing on the way home! ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ˜ƒ. Speaking Of being a clumsy oaf. I have to go to my plot today to fix my shed roof which has lost all its felt ๐Ÿ˜ซ. I have to get up there and fix it. Wish me luck. Iโ€™m going in ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”จ

The ruddy wasps are still there! Haranguing me If I get stung one more time, theyโ€™re toast ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

I went there yesters to cut all the grass but my mower conked ๐Ÿ˜ค

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to misswobble

๐Ÿ They obviously donโ€™t know who you are!

Be careful. Hope all goes well (itโ€™s a bit windy here, a few miles down the road)

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to AnnieW55

I did it ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ƒ. Dead chuffed. The hardest job was hauling the felt back onto the roof as itโ€™s so heavy. It was windy too ๐Ÿ™„. I was up there with a bag of stuff I thought Iโ€™d need, as climbing up and down the ladder was right tricky. Whether it will stay put and not rip again remains to be seen but I think I nailed it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜.

Having done That I managed to get the temperamental mower going, and mow all that needed doing. Felt epic after being practically in tears with frustration yesterday

Some get nicked my fire bin overnight though ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคจโ˜น๏ธ

Wow. As Tbae says, you are a woman of steel! Satisfying day.

Me? I managed to put my own socks on โญ๏ธ And do my physio with an exercise band instead of just free.

Hello all ๐Ÿ˜Š

I am regularly doing 3 runs a week, one is Park Run, one is with a running group (average 7.5k with some stops) and one 10k, with a view to gradually extending the 10k one to eventually run a half marathon. Got my eye on the Hastings Half next March, although it's supposed to be a tough hilly one. There is also a 10 mile Christmas Pudding Dash near here in December so hoping to do that first.

Got to vary my long route a bit as I have been doing them all on the seafront, and lovely though it is, I am getting bored of it. So tonight I hit the streets of Hastings with my new trainer lights ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐ŸŒŸ, will plan a vague route and see how I go...quite excited to be going somewhere new!

I raced yesters in our local half marathon. Got a marathon plan on the go so no let up

Hi Sqkr,

You missed your 5k sub 25.00 by 1 sec.๐Ÿ™ˆ

Strava numbers confusing,for me anyway.

Reports 25:08, your splits,25:01, it gives you 25:00, PB.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Amazing pace Sqkr and also you are a mathematician,so you have got it all,why not a 24:59๐Ÿค” well within the accuracy tolerance.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š Yes, there was a bit of an argument between Garmin and Strava again despite the fact they're looking at the same gpx fileโ€”my watch congratulated me on my 25.08 PB and Strava on my 25.00 one, so I took the latter ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think a bit of the confusion comes from the fact the track I use is treelinedโ€”my GPS falls into confusion on one particular woody corner, so I wonder if both Garmin and Strava do a line of best fit, but calculate it a bit differently.

I'm slowly making my way back into the group. Things are definitely on the mend, and most of the pain is gone now. I still tape my foot and feel a slight twinge in my heel when I run, but no problems afterwards. I've even dropped the orthotics on my last few runs, and am going to a naprapath now, who has confirmed that it's plantar fasciitis, but agrees that I'm on the mend. I've managed two 5K runs a week the past two weeks, so things are looking good.

Now that my trail races are done this year, I'm shifting my focus to try for a HM distance again. My plan has 3 days of running and 2 days cross training. My plan will be to do a tempo run, a speed or hilly run and then the long run weekly and have a bunch of different things I can do for cross-training. Did my first cross-training work out last night. With all the talk of the importance of activating your glutes while running on the Bridge to 10k forum, I did a series of exercises last night designed to activate your glutes. Will finally finish the Pace Academy 5k challenge tonight, using the final 5k run as my tempo 5k tonight.

Great 10 miler in Portsmouth yesterday and have booked a flat 10k towards the end of November, so a few weeks working on SPEED ahead for me! Am also looking to do my second HM early next year or maybe in the spring...off to scour the web for inspiration! Happy running folks.

Iโ€™ve signed up for Around the Bay 30k in Hamilton, Ontario in March, so that is the training focus through the winter months. Taking a break this week though. Might look at nutrition and cross training too, though I am notoriously undisciplined in those areas.
