Ring of Fire Reality Checks.

Lost my post answering a call from my daughter in Dubai.

My plan so far is 6k daily, building week by week from 42k, 49k, 56k, 63k.I do not think I need to go past 1.5 marathon distance per week as a base load. Most important every 4th week will be 22k or some shorter distance and a reset / recovery week.

Going to carry out more reality checks for me by doing the following.

1) Easiest thing to do is the last day Trearddur Bay to Holyhead Mountain section tired and fresh.15.2km.

2) Do the same for the last two sections on the dark finishing sections.16.64km and 10.4km.

3) Do the same for the first two morning sections.18.88km and 11.2km.

A few questions to answer.

Most times there are no problems, only solutions, but this is an elephant after all.

Reconfirmed to myself this morning that completely ignoring my breathing and just taking one shuffle after one shuffle I was just sleeping.Must be useful on very long runs and working through tiredness.πŸ€”

Like your last two sentences Tbae, ignoring your breathing and shuffle after shuffle, I am sure that there are many here that don't really run quickly in that sense but just shuffle along happily, jogging is I think the correct word. You do set high goals in your runs, 6 k's daily and building up to 1.5 marathon distance, yes by way of those distances, so running 63k over a week if you have a 1-day rest which is advisable would work out as 63 divided by 6 equals 10.5k a day, that's some going Tbae.

Yesterday as part of my recovery reruns I ran week 5 run 3, the 20-minute non-stop run along the Fife Coastal Path near Kincardine on Forth. Looking back I noticed that I ran for 25 minutes along that same route on week 7 run 1 back in late May, very scenic with the Ochil Hills nearby and the Scottish Highlands beyond Stirling with the Wallace Monument in the distance, by the way, I climbed up the Wallace Monument from the very bottom of the hill then up all the stairs on the monument last October.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

I think shuffling more in the style of NikoNiko where your feet do not lift too high but your cadence can be high.

I am just a novice Alan, but I do appreciate a little about the types of running form whatever it is called.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‚

I have already tested and completed streaking, continuous daily and twice daily running, I have a reset lower km’s week and hope that continues to work for me.Time will tell.πŸ€”

As a base load I will not be going more than 9k / day unless other stuff is identified. Its a time consideration also at my slow pace.

But preparing for a 216km event in 40.5hours must nescitate building up and doing HM and M distances.

The base load would just be part of that and not an addition.

There are 16 stages alone and they range from 10.24 - 18.88km.That was last years and I suppose as Lordi suggests they probably change each year.

Glad your running is going well and you are still getting around bonnie Scotland.

Take care of you Alan.

PS I am still going through a long but enjoyable reality check. The moment the sums do not add up for me and it would futile in continuing with this dream. HeyHo, variety is the spice of life Alan, as they say.

Great idea to run most of the sections beforehand! The honesty checkpoints seem to cause most problems in the dark (I too am looking at some past competitors' blogs concerning difficulties). Do these checkpoints change each year though (I guess they do)? Running the end sections of the long Day 2 in twilight/the dark would be very useful with respect to orientation with landmarks/lights on the mainland etc. Those expeditions will pay dividends.

Thanks for your thoughts Gary.

I am such a novice.

I guess the honesty CP’s may have to change for the repeat runners and therefore for the field.

I notice the final 2019 maps are not available until 2 weeks before the event,to allow for last minute changes.

I am just trying to take a logical approach to see if I could realistically make the cut.Even thinking if it is realistic to proceed to examine the detailed times and between CP’s.

Any hick ups and I would be gone.

Not very much float at my pace which I am not really planning to improve even if it were possible.

Just watched the presentation on the Apple Watch series 4. Imagine its capability of an ecg.Wow.πŸ’₯

Take good care of you.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’₯

I will keep posting for you stuff on terrain etc., as I get round to doing it.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

PS. Thanks for the 2019 link.πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks MD.

Downloaded all 2017 maps.

Got a quicker route/plan now to check out the realities if I have a reasonable chance of making the cut off times.

If not, nothing spoiling I will run the circuit under continuous conditions just to experience what that feels like.Of course a bit less demanding than the actual race.

Take care of you.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯πŸ”₯
