Sorry I missed you Anniemurph and Misswobble at Longhorn. It was a beautiful day and a fantastic day out in the countryside.
First 2 laps of the marathon (it's a 4 lapper) went even better than expected. But the 3rd lap was rudley interrupted by Mr Parkinson. At around 18 miles he deceided to help me out speed me up. I was fast on the flat and on the slight down hills "we" became bloody dangerous . So at near the last marshall post , I ended up face down in the woodland trail . I was assisted in by 2 very large guys. Matt and Dave to complete lap. At 19.5 miles M & D said they were not carrying me around for the last lap. So that was it I tried and lost. But I bloodywell tried.

The trail is difficult Mike. I said so last year and this year wasn’t much better. The pitfalls are many and varied so I was only surprised there weren’t more casualties. Near the end, where the house comes into view, there were deep trenches carved out by a tractor or something. I ended up in it, typically 🤨 The sand and beach cobbles! 😫 gaaagh Kerrangggggg 😱
I think in that humid sticky weather you have to go steady. I thought i’d save any spurt for the very end. I gave it large for about two yards 😁
Did you see any Food? We had been told to lay off the grub as it was yours, which was fine by me (ish 😁), but I didn’t see a crumb.
I don’t see why your ego should be dented. I think that must be a man thing 🙂. You ran 19.5miles in heat! Nowt wrong with that in my eyes. I know you’ll hate me for saying this but you’re not 21 any more, so do cut yourself a bit of slack. In cooler conditions, and not having face planted, you’d have finished. At least you now know what you’re up against. Your next one will probably be a doddle in comparison. 🙂💪
As Wobble says, it's a tough course. Not because it has hills, but you have to watch your feet constantly - the going changes from tarmac to grass to mud to big cobbles to shale to leaves to gravel to concrete ruts to deep sand to pine cones etc. - plus the heat and humidity didn't make it easy. I was totally knackered after just the 10k.
well done sounds like you did well in the heat, trails are hard and falls are kind of part of the course I have had my fair few. But think of the positives, you got to 19.5miles, you had to very large guys to help you complete the lap.
Well done on a difficult day/terrain. You controlled what you could and were felled by what you couldn't. Hope your face is ok now. You'll be more than ready for the next one!
Flipping heck Mike. I hadn't realised you had PD. I was already impressed but now I think you are incredible. Hope you're not sore from the fall - it does shake you up more than you realise. I'm sorry if you didn't get to finish but 19 miles in that heat is not to be sniffed at. Bloomin' marvellous I'd say.
That's over 3 times further than I've ever run, so nothing to be ashamed of at all.
Of course it's disappointing, probably hugely disappointing, but I have enormous respect for your effort in trying rather than just sitting at home letting Mr Parkinson win every battle every day, and enormous respect for what you actually achieved.
Hope you're not physically suffering too many after effects from the run or the fall.
You managed 3 out of 4 laps - a really long way, and in difficult conditions. You’re amazing!
Wow you did marvellously! You ran 19.5 miles in rough terrain and heat. We cannot always control how things will go, a twisted ankle or a fall but you did amazingly with mr parkinson by your side. He did not win because you went out and ran 19.5 miles, far more than others (including myself) can run. Be proud of what you achieved, we are! Hope you are feeling ok today and not to battered and bruised.
We think you're brilliant... I reckon that doing multiple laps must surely be harder on the mind than a single trip so I am quite sure that your completed distance counts as marathon length.
Well done, Mike. Definitely don't beat yourself up on this. See the positives. How far you got in the face of adversity, forgive the pun. Onwards & upwards, fella.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, even seasoned marsthon runners DNF sometimes. At the recent Commonwealth games around 30% of the men who started the marathon did not finish.
They will run another and I am betting you may decide to do so too. You picked a tough course and got tough weather conditions thrown in too. Never the less a great run Mike!
Thanks Millsie-j and others. I don't have a scratch or bruise anywhere but I have to carry this Mr P on my shoulder or in my head. He never seems to give up ,. but there again never will I.
