Have a half marathon in june, deferred from last year (swansea half) did it in 2019 before the whole covid thing, fitness took a bit of a nose dive but i've been trying to improve it overall in preparation to the first "half" of the year ... however the nerves are starting to kick in big time ... it's not my first rodeo as they say i've done swansea, cardiff, north wales coast half and chester twice however its the first race since 2019 and i'm anxious

not sure what i'm anxious about ... getting round in one peice ... not sure, i'll eff and jeff if i have too ... my weight, i'm a heavy for my size runner ... running with others again ... so looking forward to the atmosphere as i know what the swansea crowd are capable of ... just know that the nerves are there and not in a good way at the moment :(

how does everyone else cope with pre race nerves ... ?

i'm a bit ocd when it come to the race i have to have everything right in my head ... perhaps that's where the anxieties come from ... not sure but any pre race advice is welcomed :D

I write a list of all I'm taking / wearing etc then tick off 😬 I arrive nice and early to ensure I'm there and get loo with no queue!!! Good luck and enjoy it 😊

Most of us get nervous before a race. It’s only natural, after all the training and the build-up we want it all to go well.

I try to think that nerves are good adrenaline and give us extra energy on the day!

You’ve done this before, you’ve trained and you’re ready.

Keep an eye out for our June Events post and you will get a big pompom cheer from your VRBs here on the Friday before your race.

You’ve got this! 👍

Nerves are normal, but anxiety is no fun. If I start to get anxious I play it through in my head ... from arrival to starting to run. Then I remember that sense of relief as you finally cross the start line that sense of 'Yes, this is a run, this is what I do, Now I can get on with it, it's OK, I've done it before and I'll do it again'. Then I remember race magic - all the extras that make a race bigger and better than just an ordinary run. Then grasually the anxiety begins to transform into anticipation. You've got this. Believe in you 😊
