Advice for running in Athens?

Hey up. I thought I'd ask on the off-chance if anyone has run in Athens, and if so if they can tell me if it is safe to run alone, and where? I'll be there for a week in February, but I'd like to continue my training plan while I'm over there. And no, I don't fancy doing the original marathon just yet, before anyone suggests :)

I heard you have to wear a toga.

I'll wrap it around my head, or I won't be running far before I trip over :)

Never mind the toga, that's the easy bit. Have you ever tried running in sandals without a heel-cap? That's going to be the real challenge!

Use common sense. Plan a running route that isn't too deserted and yet easy to get to from wherever you're staying. Run in daylight when there are people around. Hopefully the climate should be pleasant this time of the year compared to summer.

I've been sniffing around 'tinternet' to find places. My main concern is to avoid busy pedestrian centres and/or potentially risky places where I could get bugged, although I doubt it's the season, or that Greece is particularly dangerous.

I'll be asking my bro-in-law for pointers, but as he doesn't run I was hoping someone on here might have tried running there and found reasonably simple and safe routes.

Athens looks interesting - hills, seafront, history, and three men all hell-bent on visiting it all. Not sure I'm going to get any running done without a fight.
