My wife had a consultation this morning as a result she has wet amd in one eye and dry amd in the other eye, which was a bit of a shock. She had an injection in her eye with wet amd, which she has to have another 2 over the next 2 months and then a check up. I am concerned if the wet amd eye could change to dry amd as there is no treatment for that condition. Hope this all makes sense, as I am very worried.

re wet and dry amd
Hi Gra84. Yes, there is no treatment as yet for dry AMD but it is less serious than wet and in some people takes years to develop - my brother-in-law has had it for years and it's only been a nuisance for the last year or two and I should say that he was 90 years old this year. The wet should hopefully be kept in check with the injections. I've left a link for you with more info as I don't know how much you know about both types. Good luck to your wife, I hope all goes well.

Just read that there is a treatment for dry available in the US at the moment so that may be here within a year or two but I suppose that will depend on how things go with it - meaning how successful it is.
thanks springcross yes my wife is 83 years old so it all came as a bit of surprise. Thanks for your response
Good morning, I’ve never heard of wet amd turning to dry amd. The wet amd should be kept in check by injections. I’ve been having injections for approximately ten years now and they are keeping my sight going. There are trials in the states for treatment for dry amd.
Best wishes to your wife.x
Dear Gra84,
Wet AMD cannot change to dry AMD but can be stabilised for some patients. This means that the condition would be monitored but treatment would not be required. However, it is possible that the wet AMD can become active again, in which case further injections would be needed.

I talk about the condition with my eye docs and wet does not turn to dry but dry can develop to wet which is what mine did and been having injections for years. If the condition becomes dry they’ll simply stop injecting. However it does often come back …I had a 7 month ‘dry’ period but not the same as dry macular. Hope that helps.
