WET AMD

Hello everyone, my Mum is having her 2nd Eylea injection this Friday. Hoping it will do some good. Just asking for some advice really - I think the Wet eye is quite active and she says when trying to read the paper the words sort of move like a wave. She said sometimes have to move her line of vision to catch the letters. Her eyes are quite strained I think too. Having a few Charles Bonnet symptoms also. Just wondering if anyone experiences feeling dizzy with active wet amd? Also do you have your BP checked at the time of every injection or is that just for the yellow dye scan?

Finally she also is experiencing a black smudge in her vision in the morning upon waking. She said it’s inside the grey circle blob and has a flashing intermittent tiny pin hole light in the middle of the smudge.

She is under Moorfields in the UK.

Suggest you ring your eye clinic today regarding the flashing light. It may be nothing but could be indicative of a problem. Don't wait until Friday.

Mention the dizziness too. It might just be the brain struggling with seeing from two different eyes ( so should improve as it gets used to it) but best to get checked - they may refer her to the gp for a general check.

BP check is just for the dye test.

Think the best course of action is to ring the eye clinic and have a chat about your Mum's problems, may well be nothing to worry about but good to check. Best wishes to your Mum.

It’s always best to check with the clinic.

If it makes you any less worried I did used to feel sick when my condition was active mostly because things are wonky and moving when they shouldn’t it was like mild seasickness. I also have a black blob when waking sometimes tiny light particles sometimes not. The black blob is worse when looking at a white wall and I have had Charles Bonnet visions in that blob. All in all the clinic have said there is no problem for me but it’s very individual and best to check. Don’t worry too much it’s a long journey and it’s constantly changing but our NHS is amazing.

Yes my waviness settled it took a while but it’s fine now. I did find that if I shut my bad eye for a minute and let my good eye focus before opening it again that helped a bit.

Hi, I get my BP taken for every injection I've had so that's not unusual, also is the black spot there all the time or just after injection as it could just be residue left by the injection, I swat invisible flys for the first couple of days after a jag, as for the flashing best contact the eye clinic and the waviness does settle eventually, I find that holding a plain bit of paper underneath the line I'm trying to read helps also using a stronger light, hope any of this helps

I think you have been given some good advice. I am 76 wet mac in both eyes injections every month in both eyes which keeps it in check. The right eye has lost the central vision .. so the symtoms are the same as your mum. But my left eye carries me through. I am at York hospital.... so I do 3 fast track appointments... eye board and drops etc and straight in for the injections..then on the forth week .. bp scans etc and then in to see the optian. And she he will call the specialist in any queries or problems ... now on 150 odd injections .. good luck to your mum .. Polly x

I've had at least six, maybe more, Eyelea injections. I didn't have my BP taken prior to the injection, just the usual reading test, intraocular pressure test etc taken. Eyelea is a temporary fix. I had a much better response to the Ovurdex (dexamethasone) implant which reduced the fluid in my eye considerably. The problem is, the leakage inevitably returns. I recently had cataract surgery on the same eye (fortunately, my right eye is unaffected) but I can see no real improvement to be honest since the problem is still the leakage of blood vessels around the macula. I also had the steroid (dexamethason) implant at the time of the cataract operation.

I am beginning to wonder if perhaps blood pressure medication is a contributory factor to wet AMD. I am on four different blood pressure meds. Although I have the problem in only one eye, I suspect there may be culprit among the four tablets I take. But this is only a hunch.
