I had cataract surgery last year with wet MD and had complete success! I made sure to coordinate between my injection Dr and the surgeon so that it allowed for the healing time on the cataract surgery before the next injection. You should be fine and I wish you the best. P.S. It has greatly improved the vision in that eye!

Hi Eyecloud. Yes, I was having eye injections for wet amd in my left eye when I had the cataract in that eye done. I was so amazed with my vision afterwards, it was fantastic.

It's no problem. The two are unrelated. I had both eyes done last year at Moorfields with great success. The continuing injections are in the white of the eye away from the new lenses. Don't worry. I had both new lenses for distance and now only need glasses for close up things. I was advised to have both eyes the same, not one for close and the other for far as many people do.

Thanks everyone, you have put my mind at ease. Now to persuade the clinic doctor that it’s ok. He said he wanted to wait until the gaps between injections were longer, just changed to 8 weeks. 🤞🏽

Yes you can’t have an injection for a month after surgery

hi there yes you can have surgery while having wet AMD but be aware that the prognosis may be a bit guarded depending on how much sight loss due to AMD you have in that eye. It will obviously help with the sight loss due to the cataract so your perpherial vision vision should be better but your central vision may not improve as much depending on how much your AMD has impacted that. Your Ophthalmolgist should be able to help you get a good idea of that. I am not an HCP but I do have DMO in both eyes and they are similar conditions

I had cataract surgery in both eyes and have been getting Eylea injection for several years. My RS gave me an injection 2 weeks before surgery and my vision improved once cataract was removed. RS said, was no problem doing surgery if you had wet, just keep getting your regular injections

HiI don't think I can help I do not have injections but high pressure in eye not glucomma I had cataract surgery done for long distance and was long distance before op my surgery was fine but either the consultant measured lens incorrectly or the lens that was placed in my eye was wrong so I am now left short sighted in that eye which now means I am short in one eye long in other and they can not rectify it so I have a big problem as my eye is really blurred I wish I had never had it done as it has made my sight worse. I need other eye done but do not what it to go same way. Wish i could give you more positive reply

Dear Eyecloud,

Cataract surgery is now a common procedure for those being treated for wet AMD. Each case is considered individually by the consultant to assess any potential benefits to the patient.
