hi, I had a vitrectomy combined with cataract removal on 17th June 24 . A gas bubble was inserted to help support the retina recovery, I am now facing several weeks of posturing. Any tips on how tO manage through this? Interested in knowing when I am in correct position or not and any way of plotting progress.

posturing after vitrectomy
Did they not tell you how to posture? If not, I'm pretty sure they should have so I would ring and ask just to be sure you're posturing correctly for the type of surgery you've had.
I hired a chair from Facedown Support which worked brilliantly and I could watch to as well using a little mirror. I think if you phone them they are pretty prompt with delivery. The hospital did give me a polystyrene support which went on a table and you can just rest your head on it. You need to be face down for at least 6 hours a day. When you sleep, put pillows behind you so you are propped up and tilted over. I had to do it for a week.
Someone should have given you advice on this before the op!
Best wishes!
Dear meonwanderer,
It would be worth you ringing your ophthalmologist via their secretary to clarify how many days you need to posture for (it is not usually as much as several weeks), and for any posturing position related advice.
As mentioned by marypw, Facedown Support hire out posturing equipment, but this usually has to be ordered in advance of the procedure:

We have volunteer buddies that have experienced a vitrectomy and can advise on the practical side of posturing. If you would like us to organise one to call you, then please contact the Macualar Society helpline direct on:

Good advice on You Tube I think
Hello I had the same. Posturing is awful but has to be done. To get up 10 minutes in every hour is exhausting. YOU MUST have been told what position to lay head in left right or down. If you don't lay the right way the gas bubble will not lay/press on part that's been fixed and will cause opperation to be a waste of time. The usual postering time is 7 days. If you don't know all this something is wrong as the specialist must have informed you after procedure.
