Delayed injection

I have wet md and glaucoma in both eyes. I was scheduled for left eye injection 1/10. I called to confirm my appointment that was made in Nov. and was told it had been cancelled. They said something about my insurance being FFS and I need CAP to get treatment. I have been going to this facility for almost 18 months, so I am not sure what has changed. My insurance provider could not understand what was going on and reached out to the provider that pays for this service they said there should not be a problem and would look into it. I am waiting to hear back from them.

If I have to find another retina specialist, it takes weeks to get an appointment and I understand I may have to have another regular eye exam which means more wait time.

How detrimental is a delayed injection?

you don’t say if you are in the uk health system but it doesn’t sound like it. I go to my very good optician between injections and get a scan to see if things are holding, especially now both eyes need injections at different times. It costs me £15. Well worth it for reassurance. Depending on the department you are dealing with the scan can be e mailed if there is an emergency build up. I suggest you go to an optician for a scan to see how things are during this hold up. All the best. Hope this is helpful.

To my knowledge, opticians here only work with making lenses for glasses. I'm not sure if my optometrist does scans but it may be worth looking into.

After 5 days of phones calls with numerous people and no headway, I requested to speak to my retina doctor. I got a phone call from what I believe was a director, he was able to change the Feb. 24th appointment they had given me to 4 weeks earlier. It still takes me almost 13 weeks from my last injection. Normally I go 6-8 weeks. Hopefully, everything will be ok.

It is very important that your eye injections are on time, as the injections are needed to hold the eye stable, maintain vision and prevent deterioration. Without them, there is a possibility that your eyes will cease to be stable and they could deteriorate. This could lead to permanent damage in the form of scarring, which currently cannot be reversed. Therefore, it is very important that you try and secure follow up injections as soon as possible. I am in US. I am waiting for call back from ins provider. Last left eye was done Oct. 18, usually he lets me go 6, maybe 8 weeks. Right eye will also be due in 2-3 weeks.
