Hallo all What are your experiences of cataract surgery with AMD? I saw my consultant in the glaucoma clinic yesterday (I am a suspect narrow angles). I also have one wet, one dry eye. I have injections in my wet eye, currently been 10 weeks since the last one. My consultant said he would do my cataracts which are not that bad yet when my AMD is more stable as this surgery can make it worse. Any thoughts or advice. Thank you.

Cataract surgery
Hi there. So I am sort of the same position as you as I also have narrow Angles and Occular hypertension . I have (DMO) which is a diabetic macular oedema which I have injections for every four weeks. They have listed me for cataract surgery at some point, because this will open up the angle, which is very narrow not helped by the cataract
I am wondering whether you have been offered an (LPI) laser peripheral iridotomy or have you already had this done . I had this done in both eyes in 2016, and they are still working fine. If you have not had this offered already. I’m wondering if this is an option as it might also help with the ocular hypertension for which I think you are having cataract surgery. I guess you’re already on my pressure lowering drops.
Hi again tallyho helpful information as usual. Yes I had successful laser iridotomy a year and a half ago. Still working well. It was the bit where the consultant said cataract op might make the AMD worse that alarmed me. According to these replies it's not the case. Great to hear.
Ah of course ok I wonder if they were referring to one of the side affects which is ‘macular oedema’ which is what you already have . If that is it they could perhaps give you injections earlier than every 10 weeks. I am not a medical professional but that’s my humble opinion.
I'm very much like you with wet in one eye and dry in the other. I had the fry eye cataract done in March and I'm delighted with the colours and clarity. I had a distance lens put in and it's fantastic. I'm having the wet eye done in a couple of weeks with distance lens too. My Eylea injection are every 12 weeks and it is possible this may have to shorten a little in the short term. But I'm sure it's worth it. Don't have any laser treatment if you can help it. It's doesn't last very long and is a nightmare to redo. Cataract surgery will last for the rest of your life unless you are very unluck.
I only have AMD. No DMO or other issues. both cataracts removed same day, no problems easy-pissy. Injections every 8-9 weeks.
