Vision in "bad" slightly blurry; eye sensitive to bright lights

Hi all,

I don't see my retinal specialist (I'm in the US) until January for my regular injection. My "bad" eye has been somewhat blurry, slight double vision with it, for several months. Last time I saw my doctor, she said "It's the macula." Unfortunately, I did not ask her to clarify.

Recently that eye has become sensitive to bright lights. I'm beginning to worry that this is the beginning of my eye "failing." I probably should go see her to ask, but she's 60 miles away (100 km) and I just thought I'd ask here first. Why not?

I still can manage, no black spots in the eye, no vision loss except the annoying double vision in that eye.

Thanks for anyone who responds.

I’m not an expert and was on,y diagnosed a few months ago, but my specialist told me that if my vision seemed to be deteriorating I should call their emergency number. Could you call someone at your specialists office and ask them for advice also. Personally I’d drive over rather than risk mire vision loss.Good luck with it.

Hi,

I am not sure what your eye condition is, what injection you are having and how frquent the injections are taking place, so will just try and relate using my own experiences.I have CSR and am having Eyelea injected monthly. My eyes are sensitive to light at times and I have days when my vision is really blurry. Double vision is a new thing for me and they are correcting that with a prism in the lens of my glasses, although this is taking some adjusting too. I have been told that my bad eye is progressively going to get worse but they will do what they can to help maitain my sight in it for as long as they can. Not what I wanted to hear but it still works for now. I have had both Lucentis and Eyelea injections and they can cause sensitivity to light as they can dry the eye out. My consultant told me to use eye drops to help lubricate the eye.

I know I should have given more details originally. I've had shots in the "bad eye" for about three years, at first monthly, and now every three months. because there was no progression. I've had cataract surgery in both eyes and have monovision (one lens for distance and one for close), which helps, I think, as the eyes sort of cooperate. I have glasses only for night driving and for subtitles on the t.v. I have dry eyes and use lots of eye drops in both eyes. A big surprise to me was that the eye drops I've been using for years had preservatives, which my bad eye reacted severely to. It was dark red and purple all through the white part. I changed to eye drops with no preservatives and it cleared up. So... I need to contact her office. My next appointment isn't until January, and I need to figure this out. Thanks for replying.

I hope you can get some answers as i know how scary and worrying it can be thinking that your vision is going. Part of a problem with any chages to our eyesight can be the mental adjustments to what is going on. Good luck!

Just a thought, but could it be possible that you have cataract developing? In additiion to my usual eye problem, I have early stage cataract in both eyes and feel its now deteriorating. I can't cope very well outdoors with the bright light as it makes my eyes blurry and this makes me think its the cataract causing that. I'm nervous about getting my bad eye operated on because of possible complications. I was told that because of my eye condition the cataract will have to get much worse before they consider sorting it.

I've just written another reply giving more details. I have had cataract surgery in both eyes several years ago, so that can't be the culprit, I'm afraid. I think my "bad" eye is probably failing slowly, which I expected, but which is very alarming, of course. Thanks for replying.

Dear whiskbroom,

When individuals develop a macular related condition, then they often develop a heightened sensitivity to glare. I have copied a link to our booklet, Protecting your eyes, which relates to this:
