Good morning Brode, For the best information on the best spectacles for reading and long distance it would be best to get this advice from your optician. They are best to advise what prescription you need for both of these glasses.

Best regards,

Kelly

It would be best for an optician to advise you may need long distance glasses if you are short sighted and a separate pair for reading. If you do need reading glasses and are only a +l or so you might be able to pick these up cheaper else where like a book shop or I know Primark sell them but you will need a prescription first to know what strength you would need. Also depending of course if your sight is affected by macular degeneration.

gGood morning Brode, for years I used bi-focal until I could not see the edge of the pavement clearly, so busy looking for the edge nearly got knocked down 3 times. Now I use three pair, distance, computer and reading. Expensive first time. Please do not be talked into Vari-focal these are not for macular people.

I hope all goes well with you, take care, Denise

The answer to your question is very specific to you, your eye problem and your lifestyle. It does pay to do your own research to find the best option for you. For years I wore varifocals from a supermarket optician, when I developed a macular hole they sent me for appropriate treatment. Unfortunately post surgery they could only offer varifocals or separate reading/ distance glasses, I need to wear full PPE for my job including FFP3 mask and visor so cant swap glasses easily. I was in danger of losing my job. Luckily found a local optician who wanted to help. I ended up with Hoya occupational glasses, They are a sort of premium varifocal which give me near and middle distance vision with a wider area of focus than normal varifocals. I still struggle but they allow me to work safely.

My solution is very specific to my situation but it does pay to do your own research to get the best option for your specific needs
