Eye supplements for macular degeneration.

Hi, has anyone had any experience with trying supplements for the eyes?

Was diagnosed a few years ago and now feel as if vision isn’t as sharp as it used to be.

Saw these supplements advertised but they are very expensive but if they work i will buy them.

Anyone tried them?

Yes I believe they are expensive. I just got lutein from Amazon

Hi was diagnosed with this a few years ago, after doing some research i take Macushield, in my case i have had no further deterioration - i think it helps slow it down, you can buy it from Amazon,

If you are under an ophthalmologist, then ideally you need to check if they would advocate an AREDS2 formula supplement for you.

I started taking Areds 2 on the advice of the consultant when I was diagnosed nearly three years ago. I started with injections in my left eye and was told I had the start of MD in my right eye. I now haven't had an injection in either eye for 15 months. It was not what I expected. I had resigned myself to regular injections in my left eye and the need for injections in my right eye at some point. I don't know if the Areds 2 have helped but I would say if your consultant recommends them, and you can afford, then it's worth trying.

The thing to remember about supplements is that they are generally prevention not cure, so it's virtually impossible for an individual person to know if the supplement is slowing deterioration (which it probably is), as it won't reverse it. My feeling is probably worth it, if you can afford it, if only because psychologically it means you are doing as much as you can to help yourself , apart of course from general health, promoted by good diet and exercise.

My consultant encourages me to carry on taking my AREDS2 supplement as it seems to help me, no further worsening of the condition, so very happy about that. I take Vision Defender.
