EYE INJECTION

This was my 3rd injection and by far the worst. Two hours after surgery my eye is painful and tires.Other than cooled boiled water can anyone suggest a way of relieving this?

Use sterile lubricating drops to wash out the eye ( pain likely from iodine used) then regularly to keep eye from drying out.

It's counterintuitive but teary eyes are dry ones trying to moisten themselves.

I use hypromellose to wash eye as its quite liquid and then Hylotear to moisten as that's thicker and seems to work better esp in winter.

If pain persists they may have scratched your eye with clamp - ring your clinic for advice.

I always take a couple of paracetamol before the injection - say 30 mins

I can only speak from my own experience, but I had significant discomfort after first Eylea injection. Consultant switched from iodine to chlorohexadine after which only minimal discomfort. Also provided with Systane antibiotic drops (4 times a day for seven days) which also helped. I hope this might help for the future.

Here’s what I have learned from this site in the many years of receiving an eye injection.

1. Prepare the eye PRIOR to the injection by using a gel ointment 1-2 nights before the appt. Use gel drops during the day. This prepares the eye by keeping it moist.

2. Start over the counter pain meds the night before injection. (I do take a pinch of a RX anti-anxiety the morning of) These pain meds will not be 100% effective, but do help.

3. Following the injection request a thorough wash of eye - I ask for the whole bottle (!!), a bit of a joke, but gets the point across. It is noted in my chart now as well.

Through this site I learned that beta-dyne causes the reaction due to crystals which form after the beta-dyne has been used. So the more flushing the better.

4. Request a patch over eye to keep the eyelid still. Keep it on for 4-5 hours.

5. At home continue pain meds as needed. I sit up in dark space, do not lay down, use a cold pack gently on eye as able.

Dear Isabella,

It is important that you contact the eye clinic if you experience pain after an injection. They will then call you back in if they feel that they may need to see you. In addition, it allows them to identify what may have caused the pain so that they can put in measures in advance of the next injection to try and stop it occurring again.

Dud they use iodine drops ?...that can leave eye painful , I only had it once when a nurse squirted it all my eye (usually just couple drops)... I washed the eye out with eye bath and cooked boiled water it eased it almost immediately xxx

Use a lot of eye drops after the injection. Cold compress. I've had 18 injections, as long as I keep putting drops in it doesn't burn.

It's my first injection at Royal blackburn in two weeks I'm worried its sore to be honest I'm really worried I'm only 49 just Been diagnosed with amd in December

Actual injection shouldnt hurt but it can be painful sfterwards.See above comments for help.Hope you get on okay. X
