Antidepressants and AMD

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I'm a 54 year-old man with early signs of macular degeneration. In addition, I have recently been prescribed antidepressants (the SSRI, Fluoxetine).

After having a Google, I saw that a possible side-effect of this antidepressant is increased pressure in the eye.Does anyone know if this is something I should be concerned about - or are SSRIs okay for AMD sufferers?

Thanks for any advice you have to offer.

Hello Ash111,

I am sorry to learn about your macular degeneration.

Please see our booklet about early AMD;

macularsociety.org/sites/de...

Increased eye pressure is associated more with glaucoma rather than macular degeneration.

You would need to monitor this with regular checks with your optometrist at your optician.

Best wishes
