2 think, I only joked with my dermatologist 12 months ago that I was turning in2 Michael Jackson as I had a few large patches of vitiligo on my legs. Little did I know!
Michael Jackson had discoid lupus!: 2 think, I only... - LUPUS UK
Michael Jackson had discoid lupus!
Sher.....i read a huge article recently on how michael jackson had lupus ,and maybe thats why he had an issue with pescription pain meds?the article said he kept it from the press as he didnt want to be known for having lupus ,look after your self and hope your still flare free?brave
2nd month of 'sleeping lupus' thanks brave
It explains a lot really doesn't it.
It's quite sad really, as if he had actually come out & said he had lupus can u imagine how much good that would've done in respect of raising awareness of the condition? As 4 not wanting 2 b known 4 having lupus, personally I can't get my head around that. It's not something 2 b ashamed of & with the amount of talent the guy had, I hardly think lupus would b the first thing that sprung 2 mind when they thought of him (if u get what I'm trying 2 say ll!). Also, I think he may have had an easier ride, people thinking he was weird & narcissistic by covering his face over with masks & using umbrellas etc would've actually realised that it wasn't just a case of a celebrity that was a bit 'eccentric' & 'odd', but that there was a genuine reason 4 much of his behaviour & actions.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing :/
Totally agree with you. What a lupus champion he would have been. Xx
Me too (if it's true) - you never can tell with the media these days.
Exactly! Whether u liked him or not. he was a very influential person & every1 knew who he was
Vitiligo can occur in overlap with lupus but it is not lupus. Many people have vitiligo and do not have lupus. That said, there are lots of things that seem to point to MJ having lupus: umbrella to protect him from the sun, gloves and mask to keep germs away, shuffling into court in his pajamas, prescription pain and sleeping medications, irrational behavior.
It certainly makes a lot of sense 2 others that have autoimmune issues as 2 why he did certain things. I used 2 remark on how his nails always looked funny, as if he had some sort of infection or dermatitis. Maybe the gloves & masks were more 2 cover affected areas rather than protect from germs but I guess it's something we'll never know.
Just adding a bit of trivia .... Motzart apparently had SLE.
Ooh! That's a good 1. Most of the famous people I am aware of who have/had lupus r black (u have Seal, Tempest Bledsoe (not sure of the spelling!), Toni Braxton, Snoop Dog's daughter etc). Makes u wonder how many more people in the eye of the media may suffer from this & choose not 2 say anything.
I know there was a famous novelist & a male broadcaster who both had it & were white (4get their names though)
I have to laugh now Sher ... not that it's remotely funny but you get my drift I'm sure ... when the Rheumatologist told me I definitely had SLE (in 93 - almost ten years after onset of symptoms) he said it was such a rare disease he'd probably never diagnose another single person with it during the remainder of his career! He's still working BTW ....
Kind of the same sort of thing with me, diagnosed 94 after having a stroke a couple days after my 16th birthday. Some specialist (who wasn't even treating me but just wanted 2 come & look at the 16 year old girl who'd had a stroke!) told me that I was 1 of only 20 people in Britain that had SLE. I believe he was a cardiologist too so not exactly the area of his expertise either
Hi Sher, I know what you mean I wish some more public figures would come out and say they have it - just like Sharon Osbourne did when her son got MS - I thought that was so brave. I think Lady Gaga is suffering with auto immune and recently cancelled a tour with needing an operation on her hip - they say she has border line lupus - wouldn't it be great if someone like her became an ambassador for lupus. I do think that Dido is great too as she does raise awareness as her father had lupus too.
Simon Cowell's old girlfriend Terri Seymour also has lupus too - but it's controlled now apparently. Lol not that these people ring me up and let me know te he;). Yes defo think more public people needed to talk about lupus would be fab
oooh, I'm on a mission now, searching google lol!
There r loads!
Sharon Stone's sister, Leslie Hunt (American Idol finalist), Sophie Howard (Page 3 model), 1 of Billy Bob Thornton's ex wives, Elaine Paige, Ray Walston (an old actor), Nick Cannon.....
Queen Anne is another possible one Sher, for history buffs like me. She had loads of miscarriages, so probably APS too, poor woman!
In MJ's defence, & I never thought I would say that, what if the lupus was effecting his CNS? That would explain some of his strange behavior.
Royalty, blimey. Lupus likes 2 aim high
That was the first thing I thought of when I read about Michael Jackson roobarb as u know I have cns involvement (diagnosed by neuro & psych) but my rheumy still refuses 2 believe that lupus can have such a big impact on u're cns. I know when I started getting affected, a lot of people (including myself!) thought that I had totally lost the plot, so if he WAS experiencing all that, how bloody hard must've that been 2 deal with, especially when u're in the 'public eye'?
Makes me feel guilty 4 saying that 'he wasn't all there' & things like that
Hey there lady gaga, toni braxton, simon cowells ex wife, micheal jackson and seal are all known to have some type of lupus Lady gaga has borderline lupus
Elaine page, the singer also has lupus. I'm sure i recently read that Lady gaga has had problems with her joints.
Not forgetting Serena Williams, not sure if she's already been mentioned. I see Sher, you've already mentioned Elaine Paige.
Just checked it Sher. It's Venus Williams and she has Sjorgrens Syndrome.
i can remember around 20 years ago when this news about MJ having Lupus 1st came out. i did think supwerb a famous person with Lupus. Until i read the article. MJ and his "people" were claiming that Lupus was the reason why his skin colour changed from Black to White. Not the result of many many many plastic surgeries (which i think MJ only ever admitted to having 2 nose jobs and nothing else done). i never took that claim too seriously as i myself do have parts of my body that have changed from Black to White, but only very very very small parts and not my entire body!!!! . Toni Braxton has Lupus another one to add. Lucy from Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds (The Beatles song) she had Lupus.
The first time I heard 'lupus' & 'Michael Jackson' in the same paragraph was a few days back.
I know what u mean about the patches (I have had a few on my legs, but being as I'm white it's not overly noticeable) taking over the whole of his body being a bit 'suspect' (never heard of lupus, or any condition that would totally change every inch of skin colour on u're body, blended so perfectly well but there u go!). Gotta admit, I was never a fan but I'm sure I read somewhere that he used camoflague make-up 2 blend everything 2 match the lighter parts of his skin as he had so many patches, but in all honesty, I'd b more inclined 2 believe that he DID start getting patches of vilitigo & started bleaching the rest of his skin 2 match but I guess we'll never know :/
I Love lady Gaga and to know she's got lupus makes me love her more. EVen if she's not having symptoms its Still nice to see someone doing so well. SHe would make a great spokesperson xxx
I thought the same about lady Gaga when my 18 yr old son texted me to tell me about the article in the paper, unfortunately nothing been mentioned since, has there ? so for us lupies needing as much publicity as we can get, there doesnt seem to be any comment from Lady Gaga, probs that her publicists prefer to keep it all hushed up , so as not to effect her performances ? Lets just hope she speaks out soon for all of us
