Any insect bite can cause an inflammatory response.

Lupus patients inflammatory response tends to go into overdrive.

It could be related.

Best to avoid exposure to any insect bites as much as is possible.

My solution ...

Herbal based insect repellants are advisable for skin protection.

Full clothing coverage.

DEET on outside of clothing only as DEET can cause flares.

Thank you, I just found it a coincidence being sick and after being bitten all over. I don't normally get affected but I have had a bad year with repeated infections and a 3rd TIA so maybe that is why I was a bit more exposed to the bites. will be more careful when in the garden. wishing you good health.

For some strange reason insects gravitate towards me they just love my blood. There can be 10 people around me and I am the only one who gets bitten all over

Bertie, I'm the same! Always the one covered in bites. Must be our tasty lupus blood. Hate this time of year when there's load of insects about. Keep well all x

Hi ladies, I live in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC and I am originally from Missouri (very hot and humid summers in both places). I have noticed that when I am taking steroids and or hydroxychoroquine I get bitten by mosquitos (are they the same as midges?) and other biting insects (we also have ticks). Anyway, I get bitten but don't get a reaction! I don't get the horribly itchy bumps! Also, during allergy season my lupus seems to flare up a bit, I believe it is because of the inflammatory response getting geared up. This is all interesting. I am a bit leery of putting chemicals on my skin so I am going to try a new thing which is a clip you put on your self and it creates a barrier to mosquitos in the air ( perhaps that is bad for our lungs, you can't win). I need to be outside to garden (it is one of the things that keeps me relatively sane ;).

Tintin, I read an article on insect repellent and one from Avon was recommend it is called skin so soft & fresh dry oil body spray. At just over £2 it is worth ago. Good luck.
