I was left off the shielding list by mistake, I am now on it, but no letter or vaccine offer after 2 weeks. Am I being impatient?

A friend of mine who works in a vaccine centre has told me this is not uncommon and has urged me to get in touch with my GP tomorrow to make sure I'm on the group 6 list. So I'll be doing that. Not sure if it's possible for you to get in touch with your GP but that might be a good place to start?

Hi, I already spoke to my surgery and they just confirmed that I’m on the shielding list and down for a vaccine. I don’t understand when the Government have repeatedly said, if you haven’t come forward for your vaccine and you should have had one, please get in touch, but don’t tell you how!! It’s frustrating. I really hope you have better luck than me with your Gp. Let me know how you get on?

Hey Peppa, just an update as promised. My GP surgery replied to me today to say they do have me down as group 6 and will be contacting me in due course to get vaccinated.xx

Fantastic!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later. I had a topsy turvy kinda day with 119 telling me I’m not on the shielding list, my Gp reconfirming that I am ( although I have a suspicion that they didn’t send my “code” to NHS England) !! I believe when you’re added to the list you have a code on your records that needs to be sent in order for you to receive your shielding letter and vaccination invitation. The only invitation I’ve had in a year and it’s for a vaccine 😉 So.... I am reliably informed, like you, that I’ll hear soon. Thanks so much for letting me know and if you fancy it, let me know how your vaccine goes? If not, either way take care of yourself xx

If you live in England, just call the vaccine helpline on 119. My husband did this and they made both vaccine appointments for him. Have your NHS number handy. Good luck. 🙂

Good morning. So glad your husband was able to get his vaccine appointments. Thank you, for your reply. I already contacted 119 and they said that I’m not on the list or it hasn’t been confirmed by my Gp! Back to my Gp and they said “yes you are on the list and there’s nowhere for them to confirm “ They said that I need to contact the clinic and I laughed and said it’s taken me a year to get this far!! She then acknowledged that there was a “letter” there that arrived on the 11th and that she would get one of the managers to help, and will call me back. This is how frustrating it’s been. So watch this space!

So frustrating for you. In my household both my husband and daughter have major health issues. He had been getting all the CEV texts and letters, but she only had a couple then seemed to have dropped off. With my husband, even though he was on the list, he didn’t get an appointment until he called 119. With my daughter, I had to call GP to discuss- she spent a few days working out how to get her added to the list, and ended up adding her to list 6 as apparently she was no longer eligible for CEV list 4. So it appears that GPs do have some say in adding patients to the list- if they have the will. I hope you get it sorted soon.

So very frustrating isn’t it? A system that should be so simple. A case of too many cooks I think? Yes, you can be added to the list by your consultant or your Gp if they think you meet the criteria. Stay safe all of you, stressful enough to have serious health issues to deal with, without all this x

Hello peppa,

What a pain for you! You have actually made the right steps in the right order though -- confirm with your surgery that you are on the list, which you have; and next is to follow Djbl's instructions to call 119. The Gov announced this in the briefing and referred to it a couple times after about getting in touch if you've been missed off the list. It's really too bad your surgery didn't tell you when you rang them, but you should be good to go now. 🤞

Good luck indeed!

OMG, you poor thing... It really is a runaround for you at the moment. Wishing you all the luck (and your own grit) in the world that it gets sorted out very fast. 🤞🤞 It really shouldn't be this hard, but you are doing a great job keeping at it.P2x

Hi Peppa We had similar problem. Tip -- just make sure that your GP has put your email address on your record. Good luck.

Hi, just to let you know that it looks like someone somewhere hasn’t confirmed my spot on the shielding list! Now waiting to hear back from my Gp. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi I went through all this too and it was much harder to get sorted than it should have been so I do sympathise. Your GP has to put a certain code on your medical record which then triggers the shielding letters, vaccine etc. I got there eventually and hope you get sorted soon!

Morning, good to hear that you managed to sort things out. You would think my Gp surgery would know that but they seemed very confused by it!! Hopefully they’ll do what you have said and that’ll finally be the end of it. My son had his vaccine 3 weeks ago and booked his second, and since then has received 3 more invitations. It’s a bit crazy!! You take care

Do you. Know was the coding for- patient extreme risk or did the GP need to put more on the record than this? My GP had no information about making corrections.

Hi, my Gp practice seemed a little confused about it all. The code is generated when you’re added to the shielding list and this code “should” then be sent to NHS England. This then triggers your letter and vaccine invitation. I was told by the lady on the 119 number, that this should happen within 2 days!! I hope you have better luck than me !

Hi Peppa, How frustrating! I am worried about this too. I just spoke to a very helpful lady on 119 about mine. If you’re in group 4 they should be able to book you in right now. If you are coded for group 9 (coded for extreme risk) My GP put in the code for moderate risk as I was in wrong group for SLE. She found this automatically put me in group 6. She had had no instructions how to do this & took her a while to find out. I really hope this automatically means I can book my vaccination when this group is opened for booking through 119, but having been missed once & had no letters. I’m not feeling confident! Please let us know how you get on & if there’s anything else the GP has to do to get us on the vaccination list. I’ll let you know if this coding works for me.

I asked my GP because I suffer multiple Heath problems and I ham a unpaid career for wife. He looked on computer at my meds and said that I fall in over 55 group because not taking any meds that puts me in vulnerable group. Which makes it worse because they’ve been trying to reduce the amount of tablets I’ve been put on by consultants for health problems. So my understanding is it’s not the illness but the medication which dictates if ur on or off the list.

I think that unpaid carers are now eligible for the vaccine regardless of your conditions and I think you need to go back to your Gp. I have included an article for you to read/quote. I hope it helps. This system is really lacking and very stressful. Take care

Yes I agree with Peppa. Unpaid carers do qualify and it’s my understanding that the GP can use their discretion for individual patients, especially as some conditions (or combined multiple conditions) may not fit neatly into the algorithms. My brother has a rare condition & asked about the vaccine at his hospital appointment & was given it there and then. You could try your consultant or make another appointment with a different GP. If your vulnerable that’s group 6 in itself not your age group. There’s a government list of qualifying health conditions (so not solely meds). These things can be the luck of the draw when finding a helpful ear. Good luck. Vaccination works smoothly for the majority, but it is stressful when there are oversights.

I’m high risk, on the shielding list and still haven’t had mine!! I think it obviously depends how together your local authorities are. I really hope you get yours soon. My daughter goes back to school in 2 weeks which means I have to leave the house to take her and obviously she’ll be mixing with a lot of people again. So much for shielding!!
