Am not sure what your dr means..... But my Bone Scans happen every 6 months.
I go into a machine, it spins round and gives me the results as to how my bones are thinning, how much calcium I have/havenot, weather the ostioporocis has got worse etc.
Its not a scary thing, but as I said I am unsure wether this is the same....
Have aslo had the full body one at least 3 times in 5 years, this a bit scareier as its a little claustrophobic and noisy but painless.
Please do not take what the web says to heart, yes treatment can be scary but you have to take one thing at a time otherwise lupus just gets bigger in your head and harder to tackle.
I wish you all the best and send love and hugs for today, tomorrow and everyday.
Hi there. I had a nuclear imaging bone scan a couple of weeks ago and there was nothing to it. A quick injection with the trace element, wait three hours for it to be absorbed in to the bones then into a scanner for half an hour for the pictures to be taken. The scanner was open, not closed like an MRI scanner, so no problem with claustrophobia. If it's this type of scan you're going to have then don't worry it's simple and straightforward. My rheumy wanted it done to look for bone inflammation.
Thank you both x The web can be useful but i get a little obsessive with it and then end up diagnosing myself with everything and reading the most horrific of stories :-\ I woke up today aching like mad in my back and hands... Just want it to go away.... Asking the impossible eh ....
Thank you again x
hi rebeccaann
bone profile could be a simple as a group of blood tests looking at the levels of bone minerals in you blood might not even mean a scan. MY GP does my bone profile bloods regularly to check my calcium and other minerals,
but he may also have ment a bone scan and there are three different types scan for different things. depend what he thinks is wrong try, not to get ahead of yourself, he may just want to know if you need calcium and vitamin suppliments or if on them are they working. hope this helps.
Thank you. I'm always getting ahead of myself, think i'm now programmed to think the worse! Wish i was ''normal'' x
i know the feeling but one could argue what is normal anyway. try to ask the doc "what does that mean" if they says something that sounds scary. i do iy all the time get ahead of myself so know the feeling.
My GP is an absolute idiot... He fobs me off all the time. Because i live in a village i am limited to my choices. The thing is, i was diagnosed with Lupus at 21 after many tests and biopsy's and have never been referred back to a consultant since. Every time i bring it up with my doctor because i am seriously struggling now he says he will refer me but never does... I kicked off about it once and was told i need a shrink ( in which i am still under to help me overcome the prescribed antidepressant addiction my GP got me addicted too that never worked anyway.....sigh......) I asked her and she said she only deals with mental health and need a referral from my own GP !!! Oh look... I'm back at the beginning.... **banging head on wall again** That's the main reason i turn to the web for answers. Feel so sad and isolated
