Alternative to hydroxychloroquine?

Hi my beautiful people,

Just a quick one.

I have been struggling to get used to taking hydroxychloroquine whereby I have to take a break for a few days, then my systems flare back and have to restart hydroxychloroquine. Symptoms are extreme weakness, and facial twitching. Rheumatology have been made aware and I do have a f2f in 3 weeks time.

My question is do they have an alternative that is as effective as hydroxychloroquine but hopefully without the side effects?

You could ask about Mepacrine. I got given this after having to stop hydroxychloroquine because of side effects. I was recommended it by a private rheumatologist and then asked my NHS rheumy about it, I don't think they would have suggested it themselves but they were happy for me to have it. It's another anti malarial, like hydroxychloroquine. It's helped with the light sensitivity symptoms
