I don't post very often but thought folks might want to see the letter I have sent to my MP about hydroxychloroquine and C19. I will let you know if/when I get a reply. Maybe other people on here could do similar? The letter is below
Dear ..........
I am one of your constituents and have a concern regarding the proposed possible use of hydroxychloroquine in the fight against coronavirus C19.
I have Systemic Lupus, a serious auto-immune disease and rely on this drug to help stabilise my symptoms. Without it, I have a flare of the disease which makes me very poorly.
Whilst I and many other people in the Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and auto-immune community are pleased that this drug may help with the C19 outbreak, we have concerns that wide scale use of hydroxychloroquine may cause problems in accessing this drug for our usual prescriptions.
The NHS is under stress and it does not need an influx of auto-immune patients needing its services arising from a flare of their disease caused by a lack of their medication. Online reports of countries stockpiling hydroxychloroquine are already occurring. At the best of times, this medication already has recurring supply issues, particularly for patients like myself who need a particular brand (Zentiva) as we are intolerant of other brands.
Can you as my MP assure me that the government will ensure that patients like myself will not be affected by supply difficulties of hydroxychloroquine? I would be grateful if you could draw my concern to the attention of Matt Hancock and the health department. Having an auto-immune problem at this difficult time is stressful enough without worrying about hydroxychloroquine as well.
Thank you for your time in reading this. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as you are able to do so.
