hello. My husband has been diagnosed with SLE. He has discomfort when he flys in his heart. His cardiologist has said there is nothing wrong with his heart although he has pericarditis…. Which you can fly with… so we think it is a lupus symptom. Does anyone have any similar experiences or tips? Flying to Florida from the UK on Tuesday…. Thank you!!

flying with lupus
Sorry can’t really help here as I’ve never had a problem flying, maybe he is just anxious about flying. Listen to music or read a good book, just get him to relax and chill, I like to have a wee glass of wine and then hopefully have a sleep to pass the time. Have a lovely holiday 🥂☀️

Hi Ckight, I’ve had one episode of pericarditis before but never had problems flying, so not sure if I can be much help! It’s good that the cardiologist has cleared your husband. My only thought is that pericarditis causes scarring on the pericardium, so perhaps that is the sensation your husband is feeling? All I can suggest is pain meds and perhaps something to put your husband to sleep for the flight so he is more comfortable. Personally, I take sedating meds when I fly due to motion sickness, so I am much more comfortable when I sleep through the flight. Also, pain can cause a vicious cycle whereby you fear the pain which then increases your experience of the pain! So anything your husband can do to relax should be helpful. Good luck!
