Monday 20th November at 5:30pm we are hosting a webinar with specialist financial planners from the Stonewood Group. They will talk through some information, and you will have the opportunity to ask them questions. The topics discussed will come directly from what people highlighted was important in a survey we recently ran, including:
- Managing the impact of the unpredictability of lupus on financial planning
- Retirement planning with lupus
- Getting “financial products” like life insurance when you have lupus
If you would like to submit a question in advance, please contact Debbie Kinsey on debbie@lupusuk.org.uk or 01708 731251. The webinar will be recorded and put on our YouTube channel so you can watch another time if you are not available on the 20th. Please feel free to submit questions even if you cannot attend live.

Here are some things I think it would be great if they could cover:
- Any advice for young people diagnosed with lupus?
- Any advice for first time buyers with lupus, looking to get their first mortgage? (Now or in the future)
- Any advice for renters with lupus? (Not everyone can afford to buy a house :))
- Any advice for people diagnosed with lupus who may have worked for a while before lupus hit (and could have a small pension pot)? Does this differ from their advice for younger people?
- Thoughts on contingency planning for periods of unemployment due to ill health where retirement is not an option? What is their experience around employment or illness protection products? E.g. insurance that pays your rent or mortgage if you lose your job (unemployment) or are not working due to illness? (Used to be called PPI and was historically often missold). Benefits often take a while to come through and may not cover all of your bills
- If you can afford to save for the longer term - when should you prioritise putting money into your pension over typical savings products? There is a higher than average chance of early retirement due to lupus, but you can’t access that money until you retire, which could be a while off for younger people
- Do they have any thoughts on the current accounts that offer insurance products as a benefit of the account? E.g. travel insurance. Are they worth exploring?
